As each of you campaign for votes during your FIVE WEEK ‘RECESS’, would ask you share answers to the following questions with your constituents:

•    What is the estimate of job losses from the lack of an energy policy from the US Congress?
•    What percent of the increase in inflation constituents have suffered in the last 12 months is due to increased fuel prices – both direct (fuel for tanks), and indirect (food stuffs, services, air travel)?
•    Of all of the talk of ‘Oil Company Profits’, what was the real profit margin, and of that margin, what was the dollar amount that will be paid to the Federal Government in taxes; and what was the dollar amount devoted to exploration?
•    What is the rationale for the majority party’s continued reliance on foreign oil, when we have shale, coal and an abundance of proven reserves within the US boundaries?
•    What was the rationale of the majority party’s decision to leave Washington without at least bringing offshore drilling to a vote on the floor of the House?   Is the majority party so in lock step with the Speaker that the use of logic for your constituents is secondary in your thought process?
•    Have you researched the impact of high energy costs of small and medium sized businesses within your own districts?  If so, what is the impact in terms of their profits and hiring abilities?  If you have not conducted such research, WHY NOT?
•    How many small and medium size businesses could fail by the end of this year if there is not some hope of relief at the pump – within your own districts?   How do you justify your lack of action given what you learned from your ‘research’?
•    Why should your constituents vote for you in November, when you have not voted for them in 2007 and 2008 to cause us to become energy independent?
•    The point was made by the media on August 2, 2008, that Florida may be in a recession due to lack of tourists this season.  For your friends to the south in Florida, what is your best estimate of individuals from your district who were unable to travel to Florida for a vacation this year, due to high energy prices?  Would appreciate you sharing your findings with Congressman Wexler.
•    There is an old Chinese proverb that says, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a first step.”  When will the majority party take the first step towards the US becoming energy independent – including the use of ALL sources of energy?

Thank you in advance for your timely and, no doubt insightful, responses.  Will be looking forward to your straight forward answers.  You do owe answers to your constituents.

Mr, Wheel

Energy policy by oil has been the mainstay of the Rebublicans for the last 7 1/2 years. Americans are now reaping the seeds of policy direction sowed by Bush. The best shor term idea of ending speculation in the markets has been cruched by the rep's, The next idea of short term ideas is releasing oil from the SPOR was crushed by the Reps. The Rep's to their credit have come around to the idea of renewables - but no leglisation will happen unless drilling comes first. The Dem's just don't trust them. As in 2005, the Dem's won't pass more drilling areas unless there are renewables dollars invest. I appaud the Dem's for standing up to this smoke screen.

Good post Wheeljc! We need to asked our Congress to answer all the above questions both
Dems & Repubs. They've gone to recess and left the American people hanging on the tree of despair, and not one single one of them even stopped to apologize on our behaves, for the enormous burden we the people bear for a disfuctional Government. Damn them for failure to do it's duty for the Americam people..T.I.

Just for info folks, check out the following:

bill-30-billion

Would appear that if the Congress had a lick of sense, they would keep these guys drilling like thunder darn 24-7 -- given the tax revenue they are receiving from 'BIG OIL'. But, that would require a 'lick of sense'!!

thatlisagirl, you most certainly can use the questions. Might also take a look at what happened on the Georgia coast this week. The Sea Island Company has had to lay off about 400 folks due to the 'economy'. Our economy runs on energy -- something that too many of our elected officials have difficulty comprehending.

KevinA no policy is going to happen now that idiot Pelosi and her clown friend Harry Reid have turned off the congressional lights for five week, yeah those concerned democrats, those people don't care thay are at home in their mansions. No Bush isn't perfect but his poll number are still higher than congress, if you think Obama or McCain are going to do any better I got some swamp land for sale...

retired,

I think either candidate will do much better than Bush. The question is what direction will the dollars flow. Clean or dirty energy. That is your choice.

We've had a energy crises for more than 7 1/2 years but whoever is elected isn't going to change much of anything, Pelosi still thinks Americans are paying $2.56 $3.00 a gallon for gas maybe Bush thinks that to, maybe McCain and Obama think that also, these politicians are no where in most Americans league, does anyone think that they pump gas into there big SUV's, Oh and Al Gore mister global warming you are a Americas greatest con man your monthly electric bill is more than my electric bill and house payment for a year, none of these politicians give a darn about the common man after they are elected. They are only trying to get their picture on a dollar bill and raise their wealth level. Bill and Hillary, Gore, Pelosi,Obama, Bush, McCain millionaires, yeah they are there for us, NOT !

I have always bashed Bush and Cheney. I have problems with both wars and cowboy foreign policy around the world. I have problems with massive deficit and growing national debt. I don't agree with growing social programs unless we pay for them. We will pay 200 billion in interest on the debt alone in 2008. 700 billion will be sent outside the US for oil.
Energy independance is my key issue. Pollution from carbon based fuels is a reality. Mandate hybred/electric plug in cars ran on biofuels. Massive weatherization of existing homes and business. All new construction mandated to be energy nutural. Solar on most homes. Pickens plan on wind where it's smart. Take advantage of geothermal where we can. As Toyoto is displacing GM for the #1 spot by building smarter cleaner more fuel efficient cars. I think renewables will replace oil, coal and nuclear. 50 billion for 15 years would make this happen fast. Millions of jobs for regular workers.
Let Europe/NATO, Iraq, South Kora, Japan etc defend themselves unless they pay for 100% of the cost of our military involvement.
50 billion a year sounds like a lot of money. We spent 72 billion a year for military R&D in 2007. If we had spent this kind of money on renewables over the last 7 years the US would have been in much better shape. The Dem's are the closest on energy policy to my view and thats why they will get my vote this cycle. Neither parties are even close to my view on having a balanced budgit/then funding programs. So a flaming liberal I'm not. I would reinstate the taxes for the top 10%. This means higher taxes for those

No matter who gets elected all their false promises won't change much because congress has there greety little hands in the till, their pockets or interest needs to be padded.
