The residents of a quiet, peaceful town in north Georgia have long embraced the tranquil atmosphere of the great state they live in. For the past two weeks this calm way of life was very Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 discourteously interrupted. Many of you assume it may be a music festival or some sort of uninvited guest, no; we actually paid for this to come into our lives. I am referring to the Governor’s drug task force helicopters. Georgia taxpayers pay around $190 an hour for fuel alone. Unfortunately I couldn’t obtain any information regarding the budget allotted to the governor’s task force, so I don’t have an exact number. To explain my approximation of the fuel costs; a helicopter consumes around 45 gallons per hour and diesel fuel being an average price of $4.22. Growing up in Madison County and attending their public schools made me painstakingly aware of the lack of money in our school systems. Teachers complaining about pay cuts, obsolete text books, lack of text books, music equipment dating back to 1970, and a Middle School with asbestos in the ceiling. I can understand and accept these types of things, I assumed there just wasn’t adequate funding. Somehow I feel that we have the money to fund our schools and educate our future, but where is it going instead?
