Prepare yourself for the onslaught of $ 4.00  a gallon gas by summer. Higher food prices, airfares, layoffs, ah but no wage increases to compensate, for higher medical insurance premiums, Let's see our tax rebates evaporate into someone else's pocket book. what!, me a pessimist you say? Damn right, when it takes 2 1/2 incomes now to live comfortably above the poverty line barely above it for most families, and your being sandbagged by higher everything, you'd see the down side too. Of course the Oil Barons are living the high life and so are their investors.

If Clinton/Obama want to do something, how about raising the earned income tax credit , the national minimum wage, stop overseas outsourcing of tech jobs, Come on! How bout giving the Fair Tax movement a shot? After all I'd rather be taxed on what I spent rather than the meager wages I earned. Oh yea, and give farmers a good reason to do what they're suppose to, and that's to provide food for the nation, not gas for an oilman's SUV. Wanna go green?, put some turnips on my plate at a reasonable price, look all I want is milk from the cow not buy the damn thing! Now I'm not advocating bringing back price controls, &  constraints, but something's gotta be done. We need to kill the, "Greed Gremlin" for sure. we need to do more than just saying, "Whatever!".......... Trippy

There are many of those out here that have "many ideas" about how to solve our energy costs problems. Ethanol..(which I believe is not only a BIG MISTAKE but already 'corrupted price fixing' has been engineered out by those who command the prices at the pumps.)

Battery Powered cars...great ...I'm just waiting for how the manufacturers are going to design 'flaws' in their battery construction inorder to keep a good supply of "NEW BATTERY SALES" flowing ....You didn't think they were going to use technology to build you a battery that was going to last as long as you now did you?...(laughter..)

Then there's my favorite...HYDROGEN! ..Hey! if it was good enough for the NAZI's! then it's good enough for the good 'ol US of A!...(Yes, if you remember, Nazi's used HYDROGEN in thier Derigibles...(remember der Hindenburg herr Kaieser!) Nicht vergessen!
Never Forget!...
Well it does give a clean by product...water!
Problem is that it takes more ENERGY to manufacture than it does to benefit.

The ONLY SURE THING to do is to change habbits of ANY OIL USAGE...to a minimum. Now you alone will not bring down any oil company but you ALONE will save some money, and that's a good positive start now isn't it?...I'm not saying discard oil products altogether...but cut down your usage....buy a smaller car...buy a motorcycle...hell, buy a bicycle if you want!

One more thing... about ETHANOL, notice now that alot of your gas stations are claiming thier regular gas "MAY CONTAIN 10% ETHANOL"?

Well, if that's true then, where is my 10% discount per gallon that I'm not getting PURE GASOLINE but ETHANOL?... Or are they trying to tell me that ETHANOL is the same price as GASOLINE??...do the math.
If your getting 90% gasoline but paying 100% gasoline price...that means the other 10% is the same price of GASOLINE per gallon. Propotionally of course.

Yeah, let them explain that ONE! And watch them dance right off the stage! Exit stage left!

I forgot about the 10% ethanol possibilty, maybe thats their way of saying they are saying gas could be higher....whatever.

Trippy- whine away! You are not alone....and I have dropped the useage of my car by more than half...and bike the rest and is all I can do. I wish more could, but understand if they cant cuz it all ends up costing money in the end. Sad.

The commodity speculators and wall street hedgefund managers are the primary reasons for the price spikes in oil. AlONG with world wide governments buying up oil for their national reserves, at ANY price.
Instead of the proposed pidily suspension of the gas tax by certain democrats. They might BETTER consider suspending their Democrat filibuster of opening up the Anwar field along with the Gulf Coast reserve. This would take some of the pressure off a pending escalation of a $200 per barrel cost estimate within 2yrs!
China is already planning to drill in partnership with Cuba within 46 miles of the Florida coast. If Democrats could figure out; 1) that we could create a NEW industry of environmentally safe domestic drilling. (Not to mention Prudhoe Bay has been relatively without mishap for 25yrs already)
2) that we would be keeping BILLIONS of dollars here instead of sending it to the Mideast & terrorists.
3) with those BILLIONS used in country(USA)we could strengthen the dollar and help pay down the national debt.
4) we create NEW jobs in several areas- oil industry&services, environmental monitoring, manufacturing of equipment, housing for workers, food services(restaurants etc)and a host of other logistical support services !
That said, We certainly Do NOT stop going green ! It's estimated that it would take about 30-40yrs at least to transistion from oil to other alternatives. It is also estimated it would take 10-15yrs to get Anwar & the Gulf-coast up and running. Don't fall
for political party patriot's empty rhetoric about how they can make gasoline go cheape

cheaper, without increasing domestic drilling.
We MUST GO GREEN and NOW is the time...until we can make the transition to other alternatives...high gas prices force us to conserve & innovate and that's a painful positive. Afterall, oil is a limited resource and more people want it now than ever before. The old movie with
Mel Gibson in the "Road Warrior" is a prophetic peak into the future if we don't change !
