I cant belive the Union City police dept has nothing better to do than arrest a young mother for putting too much salt in the burger mix, make her spend the night in jail and pursue additional charges! OVER A BURGER! I believe this arresting officer either had a bi-polar fit or he was trying to extort money from McDonalds with his badge. That has to be the most rediculous reason for arrest I have ever heard of and I hope the officer behind this gets his ass fired!

Its called "abuse of power". This cop should be immediately removed from the force and the girl should IMMEDIATELY call a LAWYER and sue the HELL out of Union City Police Dept. and the FORMER officer.

Just because you have a badge and a gun doesn't make you RIGHT all of the time!
That's why we have courts and judges.

Are you kidding me? I'm am so sick of these redneck police with a badge who think they can do whatever they want to whomever they want. I don't believe this would have happened if it was a white women. She would have said "I'm sorry Officer Bubba" and Bubba would have said it's ok and ate that burger with his one tooth. People think they are really getting away with mistreating people on this earth but God will have the last laugh.

The fact that one officer, over one salty burger can have someone thrown into jail scares the hell out of me! And the fact that he had to call for backup and tie up other resources to arrest this girl is an outrageous misuse of power. Union City needs to look into their hiring practices or their procedures if this sort of thing can be allowed.

To the person talking about If it was a White woman. Lets not go into the race issue. That seems to come up everytime a black person is arrested. Im a White woman and I get treated the same as black people and I have 2 speeding tickets to prove it. So lets no go calling the NAACP to investigate this. I think the young lady should file suit against the Union City Police dept. The dept. should fire the police officer. Im beginning to have no respect for police officers they can do what ever they want to and have no one to answer to. Let me go into Mcdonalds and order the same thing and it be salty and call the police they would probualy lock me up for wasting their time, and god knows 3 of them wouldnt have came out its hard enuff to get one to help you. This is what our tax dollars are paying for. I think that some of their power needs to be taken from them or there is going to be alot of innocent people out of money, jobs and in jail

Typical Confederate American abuse of power. This type of ignorance is the reason people hate the US and its policies. God bless the souls to be hurt in future attacks on our citizens.

To Jen1116 I can appreciate the fact that you are are a white woman and saying its not a racial thing. I'm surprise you didn't say, "I have black friends" but you really don't have a clue until you walked in a black person's shoes. Believe it or not, we are treated differently and the poorest white person would trade places with the riches black person b/c of it. The reason we have to call the NAACP is b/c unless rednecks are threaten by something bigger than their own good ol boys and are put in the national spotlight, they will continue to do as they've done. I'm sorry about your speeding tickets but don't ever compare your plight with that of black americans. If you don't believe me, check out the news in LA where white and black boys got into a fight at school. The white boys were given probation, the black boys have been in jail for a few months facing 22 years for attempted murder. Oh but we are treated the same? What world are you living in??

i believe the drive thru person hated the cop and ask the girl to put something in his burger.... i mean i dont think this is a racial thing these kids love getting into trouble anyways, i use to work at a mcdonalds and i would see how mean these kids were by doing something to their food just because they didnt like the person.

There are two things that stand out about all this. First, obviously, is the abuse of power by the Union City officer by using his power to arrest someone for too much salt on a BURGER. If my burger was too salty, I'd probably get a refund and another burger. What's wrong with that? Would i want to have someone arrested over it? Please.
Then on the flip side is the low wage earning, night shift working woman who accidentally poured too much salt into the food, and was too tired, frustrated, annoyed, uninterested enough to correct the problem. Does she need to be arrested for this? No. Is it annoying? Yes.
Face it. Our society has become increasingly uncaring and unconscientious and then overly aggressive in response due to the frustration over this fact.

I have lived in georgia all my life and ask me i'm i suprised that this happened the answer would be no!!! What is even more surprising that the judge didn't through this case out, he actually bounded this case over for trail, but i'm i surprised no!!!! Another wasted of our tax payers money, no wonder our jails are over booked, I wonder when the courts in the south will get a clue (aka the Jena 6 case) they're more important ways you can use our court systems and jails (murders, rapist, drug dealers, molesters) and people wonder why people don't trust the system (aka the police, and the courts)

actually...if you listen to the story, the only thing we know is that the lady arrested was black. We DO NOT KNOW if the arresting officer was black, white, hispanic or green.
In the story it was stated that she was in a place where she could not see who was in the front or in the drive thru, which means he coulnt see her either. So, I dont think its really justified to talk about the race issue as the reason behind the arrest. The abuse of power over the officer and what appears to now be the judge not being able to find grounds to disagree with the officers interpretation of the law is where this whole thing is going to where it never should have gone. This guy needs to be examined for mental issues, and someone out there like that....interpreting the laws like he is for his own gratification, doesnt deserve to wear the uniform and shouldnt.

Very simply there would not have been an arrest of any sort if it had not happened to a filthy cop. This kind of abuse of power and over reaction is the result in MOST if not ALL cases when something happens to a filthy organized gang member(cop). It is very much like when a peckerhead cop is killed.....they always love to say "if they are willing to kill a cop that means they are more dangerous cause they will kill anyone" translation.....they are under the false assumption that a pigs life is more valued than the general public.

Seems this police officer had something else going on before he ever walked in. Bad hair day, marital spat, skipped over on a promotion, inadequate performance, or ????? And.... Just one bite of burger, then to the hospital? Tough cop. And... pictures. Wonder what they'll show... teeth marks? Now for the big picture... this young girl is willing to work; at night; low pay, etc. At least she's working. Then along comes this cop and picks on this kid while robberies, gun fights, drug sales and general mayhem are happening all over his beat at that very moment. The court has to understand that flavor is all a matter of choice, and can hardly be limited or dirceted by the courts or legislation. If you don't like it, don't eat it. Anyone who walks into a fast food place should know their risks... cholesterol, salt, and carbs.. all in one neat little package. Nasty little crime occurred here, huh?

First of all, Dont bring race into everything. what is the point? Of course a white person cant walk in a black persons shoes ect.. so get a life with all that bs. The officer was a jacka** . This is about as dumb as they get.

Why'd the stupid officer keep eating the burger? DUH! The judge is ignorant for letting the case continue. Our justice system is waning badly. The cops will flat out lie in court and the judges know it. They have no moral compass. One of our illustious judges in Peoria got arrested for drunk driving and of course threw out the "don't you know who I am" card. He got a lighter sentece and of course got to keep his full pension when asked to step down. Hey, I'd quit too if I could still take a full paycheck for life. It may have been a black/white thing, maybe not...it's still stupid.

She got exactly what she deserved. This has nothing to do with intent. The bottom line is, she knew there was something wrong with the food and she served it anyway and it made someone sick. Luckily, it was someone with the power to do something about it. How many more people would have gotten sick if they had ate that mess? I have hypertension and if I ate something that someone had dumped a box of salt in, I'd end up in the hospital. I hope they do have video of the salt falling into the mix, it will only help the officers case against her. It will show that she knew something was wrong with the food and served it anyway. You all act like they are accusing her of intentionally putting the salt in there, but that's not what they charged her with. This girl is too stupid to work at McDonalds.

wingwalker is on the money. She knew what she was doing when she did it. I don't even believe all that lie she made up. Why didn't someone throw it away. Seems her story was more than one person that knew it was ruined and still it got served to a paying customer. Sounds like he needs to get a McLawyer to me.

Police officers, district attorneys, and judges get a life and prosecute real criminals!

janecetroy, let me guess...you only consider drug dealers, murderers and rapists "real criminals". While Rudy Giuliani was mayor of NY, he turned it from one of the most dangerous cities in the country to THE safest big city in the country. You wanna know how he did it? He told his police officers to start focusing on petty crimes like littering. Then they worked they way up to the safest large city in America. (BTW, I don't support him for president...that's a whole other blog). I'm not saying this loser girl needs to do hard time, but she needs to pay a price for what she did. As a matter of fact, I think the one night she spent in jail is enough jail time for her. If she's found guilty, she should be sentenced to a lot of community service (imposing a fine would obviously be useless). Maybe it would teach her to use some common sense while making decisions in the future.

She knew the food was tainted but chose to serve it anyway. That was dumb on her part. That food made the officer sick. None of you know the condition of his health or how much seasoning was spilled into the food. An excess amount of salt (or whatever she spilled into the food) could have really hurt him or any other unsuspecting consumer - and yes there is a such thing as too much sodium intake. If she didn't know about the spill I'd feel differently, but she served bad food intentionaly. She deserved what she got. She was negligent and has now put McDonald's in a legal battle for knowingly serving bad food.
