Home values are falling everywhere, so shouldn't we pay less for our home taxes

Wow ! We haven't heard anyone mention this before . All of these comunities jumped on the rising home values band wagon , and were raising peoples taxes [ even doubling in some cases ] to keep up with the market . We had a lot of bloggers bring this up , about their assesments going up , and getting hit hard on their taxes . But , like any government entity , once you give them something , you'll never get it back . These entities got a jones on spending others money , and that monkey will be hard to get off their backs . Great post !

I recently fought my yearly taxes because I felt they were to high. The County (Wayne) had devalued my property a few thousand but there was no way I could sell it for what they said it was worth. Well it turns out the current taxes are based on what your home was worth as of last September. They do not include prepossession when they figure the going rate. They base it on what normal sales have happened in your area.

I have seen people on tv state they have a process for lowering taxes but in most cases it doesnt happen.

You should have received a notice from your township or city treasurers office telling you the value of your home. You are givin a certain amount of time to appeal this. This is what is to be done if taxes are still to high.

Sarge,

This is true. I recieved mine on I think Sep. of last year and it gave me less than 48 hours to gather all the paperwork to fight it.
