It's what I've been saying all along.   2/3 of all U.S. corporations don't pay any Federal Income tax and 68% of foreign corporations don't pay Federal Income tax.  GAO report to be released soon.  Just in time during the election year.  KCStar pg 2 8/12/08  cnn.com  8/12/08    2.5 trillion dollars in earnings by these corporations remain untaxed.

Taxes are a game.  Play it well and you don't pay any.  This is not a judgment on class struggle or patriotism or politics, it is what it is.  Clearly, the whole tax system is run by lobbyists and is several feet thick.  No one has read it all and the I.R.S. is immune from prosecution from giving out erroneous advice.  The tax code has been bought and paid for by lobbyists.  Don't expect a major overhaul anytime soon.  Such as a flat 10% rate.  A flat rate is the worst of worlds for everyone concerned.  The tax preparation people, the corporations, but not the average wage earner.  The tax prep people would go out of business because it would be so simple and the corporations being taxed at say 10% is millions/billions more than what they're used to.

The tax code is also slanted toward ANY legitimate business owner.  Check out the yellow pages to find out how many business owners there actually are in any town.  The average wage earner will make just enough to keep working!  It is by design by the owners of the country.  They need workers, you know.

The feds take the largest chunck of my income. I frequently vote for tax increase in my local jurisdiction as this money most directly affects me.

But what really burns is that the feds take in all this money and congress proceeds to waist it. Then in the process spends more than they take in. The federal government should be as fiscal responsible as the average tax payer has to be to survive.

This IS Pandora's box.
I agree with everything posted... but then...
If you go to a 10% flat tax, yes multiple levels of business will be hurt, but let's assume that 2/3rds of them aren't paying taxes anyway. Lobbyist will be unemployed (Yea), and Congressmen will have fewer promises to promise (Yea).
On the flip side, business do employee people who do pay State and Local taxes, so there is some justification in exempting or minimizing a company's tax liability in exchange for the taxes the employees pay. I could go on, but I think you will see my point.
I am for a 10% Corporate flat tax, then the field is level for every business, not just the biggies.

A much larger story in today's 8/13 Star explaining the GAO report in greater detail.

I think we should be able to vote on what our tax dollars are spent on! (I realize it is a very tedious process and fairly unpractical) but I would much rather my tax money go the the Military VETS than studying the mating habits of emu's but it is not up to me!!! We vote for the men and women to represent us, but they talk the talk till election time and rarley walk the walk after elected...so as far as I am concerned they do NOT represent ME, or YOU, they represent their bottom line and whatever lobbiest bought them a $400 meal the night before!!
