"Why do they lock gas station bathrooms? he once theorized......"Are they afraid someone will clean them?"

"The whole problem with this idea of obscenity and indecency, and all of these things---bad language and whatever---it's all caused by one basic thing, and that is:  religious superstition."

This view was seconded by none other than Albert Einstiein.

"There's an idea that the human body is somehow evil and bad and there are parts of it that are especially evil and bad, and we should be ashamed.  Fear, guilt and shame are built into the attitude toward sex and the body....it's reflected in these prohibitions and these taboos that we have."

George was fired after 3mo working at the news station when he drove the news van into NYC to buy pot.

George Carlin had a long history of heart disease.

George Carlin has no peers.  The closest entertainers and viewers of the social conscience would be Lewis Black and Bill Maher.    Bill Maher is a close second, he got his show yanked because of his views on the Iraq War.....when it was still popular.  Similar to the Dixie Chicks when they criticized W about it early on.  All of a sudden their music went bad!

Carlin was great. Really enjoyed his work and his different take on things in life.

Another one: George often wondered why when they talked about UFO's people just took it lightly, made jokes, pooh poohed, said "no way" and all that. But....when they started talking about the father ghost up in the sky looking down on us, dressed in robes, hell, fire and brimstone, they all were reverent and serious.

I loved Carlin. Saw him at the Midland a few years ago. Loved the bits on Jumbo Shrimp, Army, Navy & The Smitherines, and the bit about opening a loaf of bread, digging past the ends to get to the soft bread in the middle.... He was one of a kind. He was the one to say what we were all thinking in the first place. RIP George. I'd say I'll see you up in Heaven, but I'm not sure you believed in Heaven. That's sad, because I know I could uses some laughs up there when it's my time...

Carlin was one of a kind; even though he was a bit far Left, he was a comic genius.

I have to differ on the reasons the Dixie Chicks fell from grace--they sucked from day 1! Maybe some people like Natalie Maines' screeching voice but people with taste couldn't stand it. Like all Nashville Pop artists in recent years, they were a flash-in-the pan.

As for Maher, his show was pulled when he stated that the murderers who hijacked the planes on 9-11 were "heroes in their culture." Perhaps in the warped minds of the Muslim Terrorist culture, they were, but a month or so after 9-11 was NOT the time to say such a thing!

Freedom of speech negates when it is "NOT" the time to say such a thing. Who is the decider on that one. The social conscience?
