city of Atlanta layoffs

I dont know if its just me or is everybody thinking the same thing too? As you heard all of those people got laid off because of budget cuts but yet they give out gifts like mp3 players, gift cards, and candy for gifts and they spent 1.5 million for a couple of toilets around the city- stupid aint it? I feel that the mayor needs to fire whom ever was in charge of the budget instead of the city workers. I believe that by them laying off workers the pot holes in the streets will only get worse and still will remain unrepaired. So whats your opinion on this situation??? please respond!!!

Good choice of words since noticing race and gender politically incorrect and racial profiling! Bill Campbell can get lots of blame here.
Layoffs... ppublic safety should get a complete pass... if you "work" in governent support of the arts you need to go find another job...I feel sure other value reducing departments could be found also!

dustoff, as usual you landed on the mark, Bill Campbell left a mess, but Shirley and her porky sewer project made fat kats of many a contractor. Granted Atl. needs to update its infrastructure & the state & fed funds did cover a portion but bonds made up the rest.
To cut city services, lay off workers wasn't the way to go and more's the pity, making it up with a property tax hike, leaves wounds open to bleed the middle class more I'd raised fees on liquor licenses, fees the city charges local businesses for services rendered, at least temporarily. anything but layoff loyal hard working city employees (read my blog> Mayor gone mad), Mismanagement doesn't hurt the mangement but oooh do the underlings suffer....... I think it's a shame for workers to have been loyal for years to get laid off like that because of someone elses foolish mistakes. Shirley is gonna get her head bust to the white meat.

i remember a while ago shirley and her crew was busted for using state issued credit cards for PERSONAL use, was any ofnthis money ever paid back or is we, (TAXPAYERS) paying for this. i think she need to take a paycut to help with finacial issues
