So, they've decided to slow down the release of water from Lake Lanier to Florida.  Good for them.  But they've also decided to release MORE water from Lake Allatoona to send to Alabama.  Well congratulations, Governor Riley - I guess all of your whining and temper tantrums paid off.  What are these people smoking????  Lake Allatoona is in worse shape than Lanier.  The Little River area of Allatoona is DRY, DRY, DRY, except for the river channel (which now looks more like a creek, not a river).  Is Governor Riley going to come to OUR rescue when Allatoona goes completely dry?  Is his state going to subsidize all of the businesses next season who rely on boaters and fishermen - because at the rate we're going, there won't be a lake to boat on or fish in. 

Of course, it still escapes me why they weren't having these meetings 6 months ago.  Did they think that they could get away with uncontrolled growth, coupled with a forecasted drought, without having any eventual catastrophic results? 

Idiots.

Poor Eric Rudolph.  His mother has been writing letters to The Bureau of Prisons stating that her son is being treated inhumanely by having his mail withheld, being denied books to read, and that the exercise area he is allowed to use is too small.  Boo-freakin-hoo.  I am sick to death of hearing about the so-called inhumane treatment toward residents of our federal prison system.  I guess they should have thought about what they might be giving up or have to do without BEFORE they robbed, raped or murdered their victim(s).   And on that same note....

.......the notion that lethal injection is constitutionally cruel and inhumane?  Give me a break.  Did these people on death row think twice about the cruelty they were inflicting on their victims?  How about the man in Carson City, Nevada whose execution was stopped 90 minutes before its scheduled time due to the Supreme Court's review of lethal injection?  This guy beat an elderly woman to death with a tire iron!  So what if this man gets hooked up to the IV and his death takes longer than expected, or if it causes him pain?  I doubt that his victim died a painless death either.  Be a man and take your punishment.

It's no wonder that the court systems of this country are so bogged down.  In Federal Court today, a case will be heard where a personal injury attorney from Maryland (Martin Palmer) is suing a stem cell research facility that is funded by the State of California.  The attorney is the founder of the National Assoc. for the Advancement of Preborn Children and feels that embryos being used for stem cell research is tantamount to enslavement.  So, his "client" is one of those frozen embryos!!!  This is not Palmer's first attempt at doing his part to halt stem cell research.  In 1999 he initated a suit against the National Institutes of Health, using the same claims.

The potential for significant medical advancement through stem cell research, whether with embryonic, adult, or cord blood stems cells, is vast.  And it's important not to simply dismiss the entire process because of the moralistic outcries from a minority of the population.  And no matter how I feel about Mr. Palmer's misuse of the court system, that vocal minority is an important player in the necessary battle to police the stem cell research community. 

Jesse Jackson has commented that Barack Obama "acted like he was white" in Obama's response to the Jena 6 situation.  That type of sentiment is exactly why this country will NEVER be homogeneous.  We don't need to worry about segregation in our schools because it exists everywhere else in our lives. 

Barack Obama acts like a human being.  He doesn't let the color of his skin dictate how he acts or what he does.  And that's exactly how anyone running for office in this country SHOULD act. 

If the Fulton Co. Health Department gave Spondivits a score of 48, why on earth were they still open for business?  They should have been shut down on the spot until they corrected the violations - which, by the way, were serious violations and the inspector was well aware that the violations were such that someone could become ill.  Seems like negligence not only on Spondivits' part, but the Fulton County Inspection Department as well.

Kind of makes me not want to eat anywhere by my own kitchen..................

Well, now Brian Nichols' attorneys have filed yet another motion to ask the judge to delay the trial, force the State to give them more funds, or to block the prosecutors from seeking the death penalty.  Ah, there it is - the crux of  what Nichols' defense team has been volleying for all this time.  Can they actually believe that this piece of garbage doesn't deserve to die for what he did?  He has no regard for the legal system unless, of course, that system can keep his sorry butt alive.  And why does he need FOUR attorneys?  Who is he that makes him deserving of such a lavish defense team?  The $1.8 million dollars already spent on his defense is obscene and, as far as I'm concerned he deserves no more than one attorney representing him for no other reason than to make sure he behaves himself in court.  When he took the lives of his four victims on March 11, 2005, he forfeited any rights he had to the possibility of living out his miserable life in prison.  He deserves the death penalty - and not twenty years from now.  SOON.
