Well, I say "boating etiquette" - or lack thereof, in this case.  There should be a blood test people have to take to measure their Idiot Factor before they're allowed to rent a boat and actually take it out onto the lake.  Case in point: yesterday while on Lake Allatoona, we were anchored alongside a rocky cliff - fishing and enjoying the peace and quiet.  As I'm fishing off the back of the boat, I notice movement out of the corner of my eye.  I look up to see a pontoon boat full of people cruising by about 20 feet away from us.  They end up stopping about 100 feet away and then I see one of the men swimming/wading to shore and climbing up the side of this rocky outcropping!  I'm thinking, "Surely, this guy isn't going to jump in from up there."  The next thing I know, the pontoon boat comes back across (again, about 20 feet from us) to go to the other side of our boat.  A couple of minutes later, these idiots begin cheering as their friend jumps from the top of the cliff into the water - about 30 feet from where we are fishing.  These wankers had to have been blind not to see that we had lines in the water.  It would have been one thing if these individuals were in their 20's - not excusable, but more understandable that they'd do something so stupid.  However, these people looked to be over 45!  Definitely old enough to know better.  I guess common sense and manners is a thing of the past with too many people these days.

I"m with you, some of us like to spend a nice quiet day fishing, while others think the lake is one big party room. My gripe is with people who think, boat and drinking go hand in hand. Last year on Lake Sinclair, we were fishing, and a boat sped by and missed us by about ONE FOOT!! Talk about a scary thing, ruined our whole night. But as for the jumping in with the fisherman. One time, my buddie was fishing, a guy jumped in right behind the boat, and she had just thrown out her lure, yeap you got it, she felt a tug, and SET the hook!! I really hope he didnt want any kids anyway.

Commen courtesy goes a long ways. I apologise on behalf of the jerks that spoiled your piece and quiet. Lord knows I need to go fishing. I've learned though the best fishing holes are the ones where no one else is. I personally would have made reference to the lores in then water and asked them to be considerate of first come first serve.

Yeah, one would think people in the mid-forties would have manners and good judgment. A little liquor can do alot to the brain though, leaving all good manners and good judgement in the dust. But, on another thought, I did't mature fully until I hit about 60.

I'm the mother of two wonderful children, now out on their own. I find, as I get older, that I'm more conscious of social, political, economic, and environmental issues. I've also become more vocal, which isn't always a good thing! I love the outdoors, golfing, fishing, reading, cooking, tennis, photography, and NASCAR.
