Dear Mr. John Conyers,

It is year 2008, and we are fastly approaching year 2009, and as much as I hate to do it...as far as women have come to be independent, self sufficient, and in need of no man in order to succeed....I must respectfully ask you to:

          TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR WIFE!!!

If you hold the city of Detroit dear, or the state of Michigan, or your own political career...please..for the love of GOD..get a hold of your out of control wife!! With every embarrassing antic that she provides the media with, she is single-handedly wiping out any respect that YOU may have coming as a result of your own political career.

Everytime she opens  her big yap, she does a disservice to all black women ! She does a disservice to women period! She does a disservice to women in power, she does a disservice to the City of Detroit, and to politics!

There is no way that you could be married to her for this long and NOT be aware that you married a buffoon!

 I'm sorry, but I BLAME you! You should have left Monica in that nightclub where you must have found her, but because you chose not to....we all must suffer!

It's even more maddening because this all could have been avoided with a trip to the dollar store! Yes! I said dollar store! The dollar store sells duct tape, and for one dollar, you could have bought a roll of duct tape and used it in the following way:

1.) Do not allow monica to leave the house without duct tape over her mouth (This would avoid all of the foolery that manages to come out of her mouth)

2.) Do not allow Monica to leave the house without duct tape over her pockets (so no payoffs can make their way into her pockets)

3.) If number 1 and 2 fail to work..use the remaining duct tape to tie her behind  up and lock her in the nearest room in your house!! She should never see daylight again until she knows how to act like a walking, breathing normal human being!

I want to begin this post by declaring my love for the City of Detroit! Much like a parent, dealing with a troubled child..it is time for Detroit to get a dose of Tough Love!! The people who remain in Detroit will tell you in a minute that they love Detroit unconditionally! I love Detroit too, but I'm afraid to say that my love does have "conditions".  

Condition 1: Safety  

We all hear the numbers...Those ever-climbing crime rates that Detroiters suffer through. The numbers that have crowned us 'Murder city" time and time again throughout the years! As much as I want to jump on the bandwagon of those who say that the perception of Crime in Detroit is exaggerated by the media...I just can't. Only those who have thus far escaped the grips of Detroit crime can exclaim that the perception is just that and not a reality! If you or a loved one have ever come face to face with a violent crime, you know it changes your life forever. My cousin, Charles Phipps, was a Detroit police officer who was shot and killed while off duty by a band of criminals, because he was in the wrong neighborhood at the wrong time! He died the day after his wife gave birth to their son. I love Detroit, but safety is a condition of my love. When your children can't play outside for fear of gunshots or it takes hours for the police to respond to a crime...I love Detroit, but Detroit needs to love me back by keeping me and my family safe!    

Condition 2: Education  

There is a growing problem in suburban schools....infiltrators! Children whose parents have enrolled them in "better" schools despite not living within the "legal" boundaries of that school district. Most of these children live in Detroit and their parents have found that they are not being properly educated in Detroit public schools, or the presence of violence has made the school no longer safe for their children to attend. Detroit children are dropping out of school at record rates and that just spirals into adults who have no opportunities, thus becoming a drain on society. Detroit schools have been floundering for decades! If my child can't be educated simply because I choose to live in Detroit..then it's not worth it. I love Detroit, but Detroit needs to love me back and implement changes that assure our children receive a quality education.

Condition 3: Diversity  

 Yes! I said it!! That big 8 mile border and the mentality that it stands for has done more harm than good for the residents of Detroit! Detroiters are separated from the rest of Michigan and somehow that needs to be addressed! To me, there is nothing more beautiful than diversity. For me..a diverse neighborhood is one that welcomes all colors from all walks of life, respectable people, living together. Believe it or not...there are places like this in existence  ...in America! Diversity is a hard sell when the very people that you need to come live in the city to make it diverse....are too scared to put down roots there because of the crime and lack of quality education...see how one thing effects the other? and round and round we go.....    

Perhaps my "conditions" are a tall order for Detroit, but I say that the "If you build it they will come' prescription that so many think will heal Detroit isn't enough. We can build up Downtown, we can move new innovative businesses into Detroit's core...but if the surrounding neighborhoods are allowed to continually decline, it will do nothing for the quality of life for the RESIDENTS of Detroit. I am all for making Detroit a pleasurable experience for visitors, I understand that in politics..perception IS reality! There are many Detroit gems that we can tout, we have all heard of them..from Motown, to The big 3, to the Fox theatre and so on...However, these gems have been muddied by the on-going mayoral scandal as well as our ineffectiveness to deal with Major issues in the city. I know there are many who say that they will "never' leave Detroit.

There are many who will admonish me for suggesting that we "run" instead of staying and fighting. To those who say "Roll up your sleeves and fight for the city that you proclaim to love"...I say this: I have yet to find sufficient reason to risk my life and the lives and education of the children I love for the sake of Detroit! (Now them there is fighting words)!  

Ode to Detroit:

you treated me well growing up

  I remember your beauty

until your scars began showing up

 when neighbors were neighborly

 and would actually speak

Face one: Kinfolk  

The obvious Kwame Kilpatrick supporters are the countless number of friends and family that are attached to the city payroll courtesy of Cousin Kwame. Their undying loyalty to Kwame is almost understandable considering that their livelihoods are linked to his ability to STAY the Mayor of Detroit. Tagging along with these family and friends, inevitably are THEIR family and friends, who reap benefits from their friends and kin's that feed on the City Teet! These type of supporters are not only in Kwame's corner, they are holding up a load bearing wall in his house of deceit, because if the house falls....so do they! These supporters are the most powerful of the three because they have access to City documents, and the ear of business owners throughout Metro Detroit. These supporters have the most to lose if Kwame goes down in flames.        

Face Two: Old Skool  

 These supporters most likely are older and have lived through racially tumultuous times. They, themselves or their parents have been victims of some sort of discrimination in their lives, They marched in the 60's for freedom and their view of White America is one that is out to get them and everyone else that is not white. These supporters believe that Whites are holding Kwame to a different set of standards than they would if he were white. They see the Media as an enemy wielding it's power to make their Honorable Kwame Kilpatrick "look bad" in order to make the black race look bad. These supporters steadfastly hold Kwame up while simultaneously over-looking any and all of his failures as Mayor and failures as a man. Their duty is to defend him because he is black...they need no other reason than this. They have automatically put Kwame in the victim category and will do anything to keep him there. They are usually very religious, and they use their religion as a way to defend their refusal to approach this situation with common sense.      

 Face 3: The Enamored  

 It is no secret that Kwame Kilpatrick has the ability to charm a mouse out of his cheese! This is how he was elected in the first place..and then again 4 years later! Being charming is an essential requirement if you're a politician and Kilpatrick has more than enough to go around. I am reminded of a friend of mine who at one time talked the loudest about how Kwame Kilpatrick should be kicked out of office! He would go on for hours about how bad Kwame was...literally! Until, one fateful morning a few weeks back, when while leaving a Southfield Grocery store, he ran into...none other...than Mr. Charming himself... Kwame!  

 Kwame took the time to shake his hand and rub his son's head...presto- change-o ....from Kwame detractor to Kwame supporter! Just that quick! I guess it's like being in the presence of a celebrity....although you never cared for their music....never watched their shows....but when their superstar status finds its way into your local grocery store, you can't help but be in a trance.....you may even get his autograph...from then on in you are a fan....simply because your paths crossed. These kind of supporters are simply in "like" with Kwame Kilpatrick and much like any other celebrity fanatic...no matter what he does...they'll always be a fan! Britney Spears...as much of a train wreck that she is...she still has millions of adoring fans who continue to buy her albums and keep her rich...just like Kwame supporters want to buy his song and dance and keep him in the Manoogian Mansion!  

So why should we care about Kwame's legions of supporters? Because I have a sneaking suspicion that there are more of them than we think. They are in high places and under undiscovered rocks and hiding in closets amidst all of Kilpatrick's skeletons! Kym Worthy was right to challenge the Judges of the 36th district court, She knows that it only takes 1 supporter to do damage. It only takes one supporter to help make Kwame skate away an unpunished man.

Here's to hoping that Kym Worthy can smoke out the kwame supporters who are working behind the scenes...Here's to hoping that Kym Worthy can pull the curtains down on them and expose them! Like someone once said...'Birds of a feather flock together"...Now that we are hunting the Big Bird....it's time to make sure we get all the birds out of the nest!

Kwame is hoping, as a matter of fact, he is betting that his sister is right!

 She referred to the citizens of Detroit as "Idiots" and if Kwame has his way...he will make that a true statement!

 He hopes that the people of Detroit are "idiot" enough to mistake those text messages as false paperwork. He hopes that Detroit citizens are "idiot" enough to send their hard earned money to help with his legal defense. He prays that the citizens of Detroit are "idiot' enough to believe the rhetoric behind his sorry defense and if they do...then and only then..can you call them idiots!  Are you an idiot?

 I can't help but picture all of the Mayor's supporters in the streets of downtown Detroit...

all of them dancing and singing the theme to the old Dr. pepper commercials...you know the one.."I'm a pepper" "he's a pepper"

  except...change pepper to "idiot" 

 "I'm an idiot" ,

"She's an idiot" " 

He's an idiot,  

"wouldn't you like to be an idiot too? "

 "Be an idiot....support the Mayor"
