The Sack Lunches
I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. 'I'm glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,' I thought.
Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation. 'Where are you headed?' I asked the soldier seated nearest to me.
'Chicago - to Great Lakes Base. We'll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we're being deployed to Iraq '
After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached Chicago, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time.
As I reached for my wallet, I overheard soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. 'No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks. I'll wait till we get to Chicago. ' His friend agreed.
I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. 'Take a lunch to all those soldiers.' She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. 'My son was a soldier in Iraq; it's almost like you are doing it for him.'
Picking up ten sacks, she headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at my seat and asked, 'Which do you like best - beef or chicken?'
'Chicken,' I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class. 'This is your thanks.'
After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room. A man stopped me. 'I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this.' He handed me twenty-five dollars.
Soon after I returned to my seat, I saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane. When he got to my row he stopped, smiled, held out his hand, an said, 'I want to shake your hand.'
Quickly unfastening my seatbelt I stood and took the Captain's hand. With a booming voice he said, 'I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot.' I was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.
Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm.
When we landed in Chicago I gathered my belongings and started to deplane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars!
Upon entering the terminal, I saw the soldiers gathering for their trip to the base. I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars. 'It will take you some time to reach the base. It will be about time for a sandwich. God Bless You.'
Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers. As I walked briskly to my car, I whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our country. I could only give them a couple of meals.
It seemed so little...
A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life wrote a blank check Made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in This country who no longer understand it.'

i was just shocked, horrified, and appalled about how that dispatcher took a 911 call. what that dispatcher did was, i'm sorry, but disheartening. if someone is getting beat up by an ex-boyfreind, and the victim has kids, even though the mother was screaming at the boyfreind at the time, she called for help to get her abuser out of the home. why in the living hell didn't he do anything to help that victim on the other side of the line? that dispatcher had no right to threaten to hang up on the victiim at all. then he told the victim, that he is going to hang up, and when she is ready to talk to call him back. not only that, what he did is very disrespectful, and as a matter of fact, he should be fired immediately. what if he had kids and had an abusive relationship with someone and needed help? i just think that he put that victim in danger by not helping her at all. how many of you heard those tapes on the news tonight? i would like to hear from the news crew on this as well. i'm sorry, but he is there to get us the help we desperately need, and what does he do, he denies the victim help. how many of you are feeling the same way i am? i really want to hear from you on this topic on this blog.

thank god the badgers won big time over the hoosiers of indiana. the badger deffense just held them to only 20 points for the whole game. the badger offense looked very good today against the hoosier D. that 90yd run by gilreath broke the game wide open for the badgers to cruise to victory. now hopefull we can be ranked in order to go to a bowl game. we have 2 home games left, which we MUST win in order to go to a bcs game. pj hill looked sharp as well.

THE BEST BLONDE JOKE OF THE YEAR - SO FAR
A man was in his front yard mowing grass when his attractive blonde female neighbor came out of the house and went strai ght to the mailbox.
She opened it then slammed it shut and stormed back in the house.
A little later she came out of her house again went to the mail box and again, opened it, slammed it shut again. Angrily, back into the house she went.
As the man was getting ready to edge the lawn, here she came out again, marched to the mail box, opened it and then slammed it closed harder than ever.
Puzzled by her actions the man asked her, 'Is something wrong?'
To which she replied, 'There certainly is!'
(Are you ready? This is a beauty...)
My stupid computer keeps saying, 'YOU'VE GOT MAIL!'

the badgers sure had the game in their hands saturday when they played the michigan state spartans. they were leading through the whole game, and they kept on letting the spartans inch closer and closer to the lead. i only got to see part of the game, but then i listened to the rest of the game on the way to my grandma's. in the 4th quarter, we had a 2 point lead. if i would have seen the whole game, i would have thrown the tv out the window. it's the penalties that killed them. who was about to throw the tv out their living room window during the game?

here is an idea for you bloggers. when you are thinking of someone in the family, why not send them an e-card? here are 2 sites to check out. www.123greetings.com and www.superlaugh.com. the thing is about superlaugh.com, is you cannot preview your cad. they just let you type in your message and send it. the nice thing about 123greetings is they let you preview your e-card before sending. the bad thing is you get junk e-mail from them. i always send e-cards to family members. why not save money and do it online? i do it all the time.

Traffic
on friday afternoon, my mom and i took the new highway 151 bypass from our house all the way to madison. we used to go all the way to waupun to hit 151. it took us nearly 40 minutes travel wise. now with the new bypass, we can bypass waupun. the bypass sure shaved off 15 minutes of travel time. it took us only 1.5 hours to get to madison from here in the eden area. so if you want to do some traveling, and you are in the area, try the new bypass. it would save you time on traveling if you are in fond du lac, you do not have to worry about going onto 151, they have exits for hickory street and military road. that new bypass is such a nice ride. i am sure glad they have that built. you do not have to worry about going through small towns in order to get to 151. just take it from highway v, and just take the bypass straight shot all the way to madison. it's 4 lanes all the way from here to madison. in some areas though, the speeds range from 55 to 65 miles per hour, pending where you are. what i would love to see on wakeup is a traffic cam on the new highway 151 bypass and have the images shot directly to the studio. the new bypass is a lot quicker i think. so give it a try.

i just hope that the badgers beat illinois big time in their homecoming game @ camp randall in madison. lucky for me, i get to see that game in person!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we need to have our offensive and deffensive fronts show up and keep the penalties low. we need to win this game and be ranked in the polls, including the bcs. i say that the badgers win by 14 points when they kick it off saturday @11am. game is on ESPN2(ch28 on charter cable).
