I don't mind paying my school tax because that is where the future is but I believe the m&o could be less. In my county we have 3 local option sales taxes and 1 of those is supposed to cut our property taxes but they are still too high.
Most people don't really understand where the money goes from their property taxes, most of it stays in the county, I believe only .0025 mils goes to the state. Thanks to the general assembly they stopped the counties from taxing the landowners off their land with a fairer tax. They divided the state into quevas (zones) and you pay taxes on what "like land" in your queva produced the prior year. You have to have a least (I think) 10 acres to put it into the covenant, and it has to stay there for 10 years with no major changes. It cuts it more than half on agriculture and timber land.

I pay taxes on my 3600 sq. ft. house here in Ga.. It is the same amount I paid on my Milwaukee condo 35 years ago.

I love Georgia's low, low property taxes.

Most my friends up North, pay 9 or 10K at least.

you are right bushfan, but it depends on the county, or city you live in,I live in a small county and city,on1.253 acs,it has went up23.00 in thre years, and on my other 1.acr it went up 30.00 but it is worse than that in Ky
santas elf,you need to do more back ground work, the doms are playing the same old song and people who dont know play it with them, this hasnt been the bush admistration,it has not been only the republicans,it started back when the doms had the majority, and BILL CLINTON,did his retreat on the people and the country.one president cant straighten every ones mess, when they have messes of their on, be fair, not predject, because your dom,or rep,but what is truth, and right.

The only problem I have with the property taxes that in this market you can not sell your house for the projected value of your house. That is just a projection not a real estimate, it should sell for more. Mill rates should reflect the housing market.
