Governor Sonny Perdue signing controversal legislation to allow people with concealed weapons permits -- to carry their guns to restaurants, parks -- and on public transportation.  Do you think the measure will lead to a spike in violence?  Let me know what you think.

So would we like to see only criminals have guns? Before this criminals had a free pass knowing that no law abiding citizen had a gun at these locations. I think this will give the criminals something to thinks about before they decide to commit a crime. Maybe now we can feel safer in parks and public transportation. Keep in mind that in order for you to be permitted to carry a gun you must have had a clean background check. I would like to see you ask a criminal if he had applied for a permit!

Quite the opposite. Banning guns in public places only affects law abiding citizens. Criminals, by definition, don't obey the law. The only thing that keeps them in check is the threat of being caught or forcibly stopped. This is what the proposed legislation is designed to do.

There are numerous cases of government crackdowns on legal/responsible gun owners... Washington D.C. comes to mind as a blatant example. In all cases, as law abiding citizens become less able to protect themselves, there is a dramatic increase in violent crimes.

This new law only reaffirms the rights of responsible, law-abiding citizens to defend themselves. Criminals will certainly be deterred by the possibility of being shot during the commission of a crime. If anything, it will make everyone safer, as I myself will use my firearm to defend anyone from a criminal.

Ok people get real! We all know that criminals DON'T OBEY THE LAW!!! So when you put more law abiding people with firearms in more public places, then you make it much safer for everyone!!! Look at states who have very liberal gun laws. Their crime rates are very very low. God Bless Governor Perdue for making our right to carry and protect ourselves better!

Fox reporting is inaccurate. In order to obtain a carry permit in Georgia you have to pass a full federal criminal background check AND have your fingerprints recorded. If there was a little more support for law abiding citizens and a little less fear of those willing to defend themselves we would all be much better off. A lawfully armed society is a polite society!

Sonny did the right thing. Having a permit and a volunter in Law Enforcement - these changes signed into law today are long overdue. If I drink and fire I go to jail - permit or not. Having the option without breaking the law to carry in a state park while I hike might save my life or someone else. Remember what happened last year to that innocent hiker. I agree in training for permits but that's a law for next year that is also long overdue. Thanks Sonny and the GA House for passing what has been needed for years.

Thank you governor perdue for giving us legal, and responsible gun owners more freedom. We are not the bad guys here people, and we should be able to defend ourselves outside of our homes or cars. I do agree that training should come before obtaining a permit. Carrying a gun is a very big responsibility, and should always be an last effort of personal defense. CCW permit holder since 96.

IT WILL NOT LEAD TO A SPIKE IN VIOLENCE!

The fact that a law abiding citizen undertakes the process of a background check in order to obtain a legal concealed weapons
permit speaks volumes as to their continuing paths to obey the laws and be good citizens of the great state of Georgia.

One should worry about the many people who carry concealed weapons without permits.
These miscreant lawbreakers care nothing about functioning in a lawful society.
They are takers and users who do not care about others personal safety.

I would never ride MARTA at night without packing my Night Court Judge 410/45 handgun.
Yes, that is the name of the weapon.
GOOGLE it for the particulars.

I don't anticipate law abiding gun toters will be assembling en masse at Grant Park,
Centennial Park, the Greyhound Depot, AMTRAK Station or eateries like Cracker Barrel.
Billy Bobs BBQ and Taco Bell in order to celebrate Sonny Perdue's signing of the much
needed legislation. This one is for the smiling law abiding citizens of Georgia!

Hoo Ray for Sonny Perdue! Hip Hip Hooray!

I am 1 that is all for being able to carry a weapon in public and, i am not a permit holder. I am glad Gov. Perdue stood up for what is right... i am so tired of hearing about people getting shot in a restaurant or other public places...maybe this will make some people stop and think before brandishing a weapon and killing someone. And as for more violence being created by signing this bill... NO !!!!!!

A rise in crime would be the last thing that would happen due to this new law. Criminals do not care about where they are allowed to carry a weapon. They are committing a crime that is against the law. Whether they are allowed to carry a gun does not cross their mind when they commit the crime. I believe this will cause criminals to reevaluate whether they should commit the crime, knowing that someone there might be carrying a gun for self defense. I believe this is long overdue and unfortunately too late for some who have been killed who could have been allowed to carry a weapon to defend their self, but since they were law abiding citizens, they died in the hands of a criminal who didn't care about the law.
Thank You Sonny Purdue, Thank You

As a retired police officer, I have found that guns in the hands of law abiding citizens is a crime deterrent. In the thousands of arrests I have made during my 27 years in law enforcement, I have never arrested a legal permit holder for a firearms related offense. Criminals do not apply for permits or obey firearms laws. Disarming the public only makes for easy victims.

I don't think guns should be allowed in any establishment that serves alcohol (liquid courage).

I think the new gun law is fantastic,I am now able to carry my pistol where it it possibly needed the most. Have you ever had to ride a Marta train late at night and get off in a station alone? It is a very scary and dangerous cituation.Think about this(It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it).The lady on Fox 5 News was wrong about the permits,Ga is tough on the permits. Once you are fingerprinted everything that shows up on your record has to be explained before you get a permit, it is not as easy as she made it out to be. I have carried a pistol for 40 years and never had to use it and hopefully I never will.

It would take a real idiot to run up on an armed person, however, criminals are breaking into homes everyday and they are armed so keep it in arms reach at night, I do
