Governor Sonny Perdue has already indicated that he won't suspend Georgia's gas tax because the money is needed for infrastructure improvements.  If the federal government doesn't step in to provide tax relief for drivers, do you think the governor should act at the state level?  Let me know what you think.

No; for a change, the Governor is doing the right thing. We can't afford any more tax breaks under the current state budget situation. A tax break on gasoline does not change the problem, only the symptom: high prices. We need to be looking at long-term solutions to eliminate our dependence upon oil.

I agree he needs to lookout for the farmers but he needs to look out for all of his constituets.
It is not just the farmers who are hurting it is the average joe.
The gas tax needs to be repealed and tell his good old boy buddy's in the road business sorry the average joe is more important

Why is my comment not here? I feel that as a long time Fox5 news watcher, I deserve an answer. Why is Tom trying to look like Al Jolson? He looks as though he may break into song any minute. MAAAAAMMMMYYYYY! (That's an old Al Jolson tune). Also, my sister in law works in a funeral home. Many of the people who I've seen there all laid out have similar complexions to Tom's. Help me to understand. Perhaps he trying to be like Michael Jackson.

I agree that the gas tax needs to be repealed, atleast for the summer. We are taxed to death. I need to brush up on my history...but I believe that some taxes were meant to be temporary. Now the government can't get enough. I agree we need to look for alternative solutions to eliminate our depende nce

We also need some relief now even if that means tapping into resources we have in our own country.

kenny 52 -- thanks for the complexion compliments. Al Jolson, the walking dead 'and' Michael Jackson all rolled in to one! What more could I ask for? On a more serious note -- and more to the point -- I think a gas tax repeal is probably warranted (on a federal, not state level), but there have to be more effective ways of controling gas prices. Refineries, domestic drilling and driving more fuel efficient cars come to mind.

Taxes of ANY KIND are deemed EVIL in my book. However, the realization that we must pay for our up-keep of roads is a necessity. (How many times have you screamed about a POTHOLE?)

The big question is "HOW MUCH TAX" is enough and how do WE know as a "Taxpayer" know we are PAYING TOO MUCH TAX and that our tax dollars are being spent un-wisely?

This is Bigger than Sonny P. He is only small fish in this pond of sharks. It's out of his league. Gasoline prices are a GLOBAL ISSUE with GLOBAL PLAYERS that are 'immune' to what we as a society suffer every day.

The best thing is 'Alternative Fuels' and not just ONE either!... A myriad of alternatives is the answer.

There has not been a refinery built in this country if over 25 years. There is enough oil under american soil to provide us enough oil to not have to purchase any from other countries. The problem herein lies with the fanatics who drive limo's, fly lear jets and scream we can't drill for more oil or build refinery's, that's going to kill habitat and animals, we should be riding bicycles and walking everywhere... "that only apply's to the average joe"... hypocrytes. stop listening to those idiot elites and drill and build.

There is one other option here as well... Quadruple the price of everything we sell to the OPEC countries, or better yet, stop selling it all together till the lower the price back down to 30 bucks a barrel. Put them under seige as they have done us.
