The wait is almost over. We launch Fox 5 News Edge on Monday the 14th, and I couldn't be more excited.  We'll kick off our debut week with an exciting series about people whose work keeps them "on edge."  I met some pretty fascinating people who do some amazing things--from a high-flying paramedic to a hostage negotiator who got a murder suspect off a Buckhead construction crane.  In our first week, we'll take you hundreds of feet underground and into caves where the CDC is working to control a deadly virus carried by bats.

I lived in Atlanta for about 7 years in the mid-to late 90's and left here in 2002.  Boy, how this city has changed.  It is bigger and better than when I left -- and the people have just as much southern hospitality as ever.  (The traffic kind of stinks ... but that's for another blog).  I am looking forward to 'blogging' with you after the newscast each night to talk about issues of the day -- or whatever's on your mind.  I think Atlanta's ready for a 'fast-paced' and fresh 11 o'clock newscast -- and I hope you'll find that in Fox 5 News Edge.  See you on TV and on-line.

Welcome back to Atlanta, Tom! I was a student in West Palm last year and I saw you on 7 News. I thought you were an awesome journalist. It's great to have you up here! I'll be watching!

Hello, Tom, and welcome to Atlanta! I moved here a year ago from Ft. Lauderdale, where I watched you for a number of years on Channel 7. (I actually worked at WSVN way before you!)

Anyhow, welcome again and good luck with your new show.

Hi everyone -- and thanks for joining me online after the show. Our first night was a real success -- and thanks for choosing us. We hope you'll continue to count on Fox 5 for a new and innovative newscast at 11.

I see a few of you have already posted questions/comments.

We 'are' airing That 70's Show right after News Edge. TMZ is on at 7:30pm.

He todoro1188 -- it's great hearing from a 7News viewer! I appreciate you posting -- and am glad you're able to tune in here in Atlanta.

And caricell -- an SVN alum. Thanks for tuning in, my friend. And thanks for the warm welcome.

Hello Tom, Welcome to Atlanta.
I'd like to comment in general about the local news coverage of the Meredith Emerson case. Naturally, this is a compelling case for everyone in Georgia. I would like to see more in depth information concerning exactly who Gary Hilton is.Where is he from? where is his family, etc.? Apparently, he was married to a local woman. I am suprised and disappointed that the information in local media concerning this dangerous man has been mostly irrelevant trivia. Best wishes!

Hi rad50 -- and thanks for the welcome. The story of Gary Hilton continues to unfold. With each day we learn more and more about this guy -- and his questinoable past. Having said that, we at Fox5 'have' reported on where Hilton lived in DeKalb County and where he worked (we interviewed a man he worked for on and off). As investigators in multiple states put the pieces of their respective cold case puzzles together -- and prosecutors build 'their' cases -- we may learn more about just who Gary Hilton is, his past, where he's from, etc. And you can bet we'll report the information as we get it every step of the way.

Credibility, experience and a bit of an edge; that pretty much sums up Tom Haynes (tom.haynes@myfoxatlanta.
com), a member of FOX 5’s anchor team. Tom joined FOX 5 Atlanta in December 2007 to anchor the 11 p.m. newscast, FOX 5 News Edge. Before coming to FOX 5, Tom worked in Miami at the top-rated FOX affiliate, WSVN-7. From the anchor desk to live reporting, Tom sharpened his journalistic expertise while covering stories such as the U.S. led invasion in Iraq, the sniper shootings that terrorized Washington D.C. and the unprecedented hurricane seasons that battered Florida and the Gulf Coast year after year. Tom began his career in 1994 as a production assistant for CNN’s Larry King Live in Washington, D.C. He then moved to the network’s headquarters here in Atlanta where he worked as a producer, reporter and ultimately an anchor. Tom now returns to Atlanta with even more experience, more passion and a desire to bring something different to local television. Tom is excited be front and center in FOX 5’s innovative and interactive newscast. Tom wants to engage viewers and hopes you will interact with him in any medium, be it over the air or online. To talk about issues that matter to you or to simply sound off, tell Tom yourself on his blog.
