This past weekend, Bobby Jindal, the son of Indian immigrants, was elected governor of Louisiana. At just 36, he will also be the nation's youngest governor and first Indian-American governor. The conservative Republican is an Ivy-League educated Rhodes scholar (Brown University and Oxford University) who has been involved in politics since his early 20's. This was his second bid for governor...he ran back in 2003 and was defeated by Kathleen Blanco. Jindal has pledged to stamp out corruption, cut taxes and improve schools--promises that other politicians have repeatedly made.  So, will he deliver?  The governor-elect certainly has his work cut out for him, and we'll all be watching closely....

That is definitely a landmark decision by the voters that must make Nietchze proud. In unlocking our minds from racism, we re-evalute our values, and value what is fitting, not according to power, but according to conscience. What about Myanmar?

I dislike when people feel they must declare a person by their race!!! I wish they would just state a person by their name and that he won the office!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, First FACT... I doesn't MATTER WHAT COLOR OR RACE the Governor is. Making a comment about the Governor's race is insinuating that the WHITE governors were ONLY representing the "WHITE" people and to H((LL with all the others. IF THIS IS THE MENTALITY then we are ALL SC(**WED!

Why is it so hard to believe that a person of different color can ACTUALLY make decisions that help ALL and not just one race of people?

I'm sure there was no "racists" intent in your message Suchita however, after Jena 6 and other racially charged incidents around the country, it is best to sway away from race altogether if it is not an ISSUE.
I'm sure the NEW GOVERNOR will be thinking of ALL his constituents in LA when he makes his decisions.

I believe the CORRECT EMPHASIS is the Party that he belongs to.

Oh YEAH?!! MAKE ME!

Gabe and Suchita sitting in a tree ...
hehehehehe..
Seriously, I was just pointing out that a racist remark can be made by anybody without realizing what you're saying. Pick your emphasis' carefully.

I'm not picking on her. But its as if we are "CELEBRATING" that he is NOT WHITE. And that would be wrong IF that be the case. I'd rather CELEBRATE a Governor who actually DID what they SAID THEY would DO! No matter what color or race.

Don't worry Gabe, I won't say anything about your SHRINE to her on your Living room wall.

(Did I type that out loud?)

Being born and raised in New Orleans, I've seen for many, many years, the political corruption and racial division within the state, and more so the city. It's Politics as usual.

Whether or not Mr. Jindal would make a difference and create a positive safe and economic environment, is unknown until proven. For many politicians have spoken with fork tongues in the past. Whoever gets the job as Governor, it will not by no way, shape, or form be a job easily done!New Orleans before Katrina was the largest city in Louisiana, but the most neglected one economically!

I was living in New Orleans when it was the murder capita city back in the late 90's. Police were murdering Police, Police were murdering citizens to cover up crimes within their dept, Police were envolved with selling and bringing drugs and guns into the city, and there was thief within city goverment, and the school board.

While the city was in the party mold, crime and corruptness was out of control!
No one could get a handle on the crime and corruption. Many felt because the crime was politically connected.I would tend to agree!

Richard Pennington, Police Chief of New Orleans at the time, did a good job uncovering interior dept corruption. Len Davis(Robo Cop)was exposed as a drug dealer and murderer! He serves life today! A&E did a program on him and how he terrorized the city. Marie Franks also a cop, serves life for murdering her partner(a cop). These two are just a few!

Whoever it my be, Katrina cleaned the city out with water, but they must clean the crime and corruption out with wisdom and sma

Hey guys!

I wasn't trying to stir anything up here.. and I'm not making any endorsements or judgements. Just thought this was a newsworthy item with some noteworthy aspects to it. Given that so many folks from New Orleans now call Atlanta home, I figured some of them might find it interesting, too. Anyway, I've revised slightly to include details---like his party affiliation---(thanks cromagnon!) Thanks for stopping by :-)

OK, more to the point of this matter, after all I can only stay distracted for so long, but give me a break for those of you who would suggest that it IS NOT noteworthy that the son of Indian immigrants being elected to office isn't worth mentioning. I would never speak for dear Suchita, but I think she was just recognizing her heritage. It's not like she called for an National Indian-American Month or something.

Personally, when I saw the report, I raised my eyebrows because I couldn't recall if any immigrants of Indian-Americans had been elected to any offices of prominence, but then I don't really keep up with that kind of stuff.

What I'm really upset about is the fact that Crogmagnon implied there was some kind of insinuation that White Governors only represent white people... and then what does Suchita do, but thank him for stopping by disregarding my valiant effort to defend her honor! I'm crushed.

Suchita, FOX 5 Morning News Co-anchor and Good Day Host I've been at FOX 5 and in Atlanta over 5 years and have loved every minute of it! After globetrotting from St. Louis to Chicago, San Francisco, Paris, India and Singapore, I've finally begun to put down roots here in our great city :-) Can't get enough of cool restaurants and funky hangouts....if food is involved, I'm THERE! LOVE trying new cuisines, and learning about different places and cultures :-) My I-pod is loaded with 80's music. Watch out---I'll find any excuse to throw on a pair of legwarmers!
