In anticipation of another flurry of immigration legislation in the General Assembly, Virginia business leaders are joining to oppose laws that would punish employers who use undocumented workers. Organizers, including Julia Ciarlo with the National Federation of Independent Business, formed the group Virginia Employers for Sensible Immigration Policy.

One bill that failed last session would have revoked the state business license of any employer found to hire undocumented workers.

Politicians have increasingly targeted businesses as they TRY to get tough on illegal immigration, a perennial hot-button issue in the Latino-rich northern areas of the state. “Virginia Employers for Sensible Immigration Policy”??

sen·si·ble

adjective

1. Perceptible by the senses or by the mind.

2. Readily perceived; appreciable.

3. Having a perception of something; cognizant.

4. Acting with or exhibiting good sense.

"Exhibiting good sense", to me means that the businesses that hire and employ illegal aliens should pay the price, and lose their licenses!

As long as those businesses keep placating and fueling the fire by employing them, we NEVER get rid of them.

Very interesting read here Starrman... seems these types of laws are already on the books...

It looks to me like enforcing the existing law would go far above and beyond the new proposed law of just losing a business license.

Existing law calls for huge fines and jail as well as having the business seized.

Thanks for the info grandillusion. I thought back in the cobwebs I call my mind, that I had heard there were some types of laws already on the books for a lot of the states, but was not sure.

OK WHO ARE THE MEMBERS OF THIS "Virginia Employers for Sensible Immigration Policy."???

I want names of companies here so I can get the IRS auditors on them... I wonder if we can have them watched so we may follow the money trail back to MEXICO.

IT'S OBVIOUS that the phrase "Sensible Immigration Policy" actually means "no punishments for me or my sleazy, law breaking company".

Lets also look over the contributions of our slimy politicians to see how many names of these members of the Virginia Employers for Sensible Immigration Policy are on it.

MONEY FLOW

MEXICO = = > Virginia Employers for Sensible Immigration Policy = = > usless lying politicians.

None of those involved wants ANY RESPONSIBILITY for their greed, lack of morals, and respect for the law!!

That was an excellent question Y3Y3 so I decided to see if I could find anything.

First, we have a lot of the meat packing companies most of which have already been busted by ICE for illegal hiring at least once. We have the chambers of commerce who are always on the side of the illegals when it comes to protests and lawsuits for "immigrant rights" Then you have the "councils" that represent builders, retail, hotels, manufacturers and agriculture...all major illegal employers.

Here is the list (note the % of contributions going to Virginia politicians)

Associated General Contractors of Virginia (68% of Virginia political contributions to Republicans -- all years)
George's Foods, LLC
Home Builders Association of Virginia (56% of Virginia political contributions to Republicans)
National Federation of Independent Business (88%)
Pilgrim's Pride Corporation
Smithfield Foods, Inc. (76%)
Tyson Foods (100%)
Virginia Agribusiness Council (54%)
Virginia Automatic Merchandising Assn. (52%)
Virginia Chamber of Commerce (70%)
Virginia Farm Bureau (59%)
Virginia Forest Products Association (64%)
Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
Virginia Hospitality & Travel Association (74%)
Virginia Manufacturers Association (72%)
Virginia Poultry Federation (72%)
Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative
Virginia Retail Merchants Association (74%)
Virginia Seafood Council (59%)
Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (68%)
Virginia Wholesalers and Distributors Assn.

"sensible immigration policy" would be valueless to business if it required employment of legal citizens and / or immigrants!!!!!!!!!!!...it destroys their ability to exploit the value ILLEGAL labor represents to them…

…the principals of this "body's" membership and others like it throughout the nation need to be frequently and as broadly as possible exposed and scrutinized all during the '08' year... I don't think they'd feel so brazenly disposed if these groups and committees stealthness were held up for public consideration... Of course they surely recognize the broader they can get in membership the more difficult it is for us to affect otherwise…except at perhaps at the ballot box…

This isn't anything new people. Employers are the reason we have the surmountable surge of illegals already. Employers were left to hire illegals for years and nothing was done. Now that we are faced with millions of illegals using up taxpayer money to survive, only now does the governments want to do something. So of course all those that have benefited over the years from their use of illegal labor, will now cry out "its not fair to us." What's not fair? That you are paying pennies for hard labor that you once paid good wages to Americans to work? Or is it unfair that many Americans have lost jobs to illegals because you the employer are a greedy AH who wants to keep every penny he can earned off the backs of hard labor? You're right, it is unfair. Unfair to the Americans that you sold out and the illegals you lie to in order to get them to do your work. I hope all these business owners go out of business. Its time to pay the piper now.

Good list, Sam. Notice, there's really no technology industry on the list. These are mostly the industry looking for quick, low-wage kind of labor. I heard one of these folks defending himself on the radio yesterday. The gist of his comments were they really don't want to have to check on immigration status (with the simple documents that we all have to possess). He kept pushing this to the feds. Not to say the feds have done their part, but I see no reason a state can't take action on their own.

I can guess "fish" this is because there's more than an abundant supply of unskilled labor ...work that's understood by demonstration and relies on nothing but brawn and ability to engage a simple range of repetitiveness ...but ILLEGALS who made their border hopping exercise in earlier years (10-20 years) have been finding opportunity to be brought into building trade skills that used to rely on apprentices / journeymen and offer handsome, prideful wages ...now a stable of lower hourly labor directed / over seen by a certified supervisor has enabled employers to become more competitive yet increase their "net" margin... that's beginning to disappear as the practice has wrenched all it can so it becomes a question now of where ya goin' now Mr. hot a=ss business operator...

...walla enter ingredients - components of foreign origin bringing with it compromised standards and materials and inferior food ingredients and medicines of dubious quality... what a hell of a fix we're in, more so than most want to allow themselves to know about... how far’s the quality of life generations before us built and enjoyed gonna be tolerated to diminish???
