For the first time, ever,  I have recently been wondering whether gun ownership is a good idea.

Our new law which clears the way for some 300,000 citizens to walk around with their weapons--concealed-- makes me a little uneasy.  Although background checks have been done--there is no way to guarantee those folks with concealed weapons permits will always use good judgement.  And we all know all it takes is one mistake.  There are no do-overs when firing a weapon.

But now that we have all this new freedom--should we all arm ourselves just in case someone decides to play judge, jury and executioner.  I'm not quite sure on this one!

Why don't you wonder about all the gangs that are running aroung Atlanta with guns.,there are sooo many of them that the feds have to get involved. wake up! maybe we need to get a army helmet and a machinegun look like Jane Fonda to protect ourselves.

the problem is going to come in where you have these crazies on the interstate, but they probably had guns anyway.
my problem comes with the public gathering places carrying of guns, before only cops were allowed to do this, why? because they were mentally tested and law enforcement.
but you better believe I am gonna have one now got to protect myself against the gangs and the crazies(mentally unstable)

I was a cop for 24 years, I never met a bad guy with a gun who had a concealed weapon permit, the liberals think that when they take away our guns that joe thug is going to turn his in too. When a bad guy takes hostages in a local restaurant and good guy with a permit blast bad guy those hostages and their families will have a new respect for this law.

Just look at countries like Japan; no guns, period, and they just so happen to have the lowest violent crime and gun crime in the world. Problem is that even the "trust worthy" will lose their temper, power trip, miss their target (innocent bystanders beware), and/or have an accidental discharge. All these things can and will put you and I in harms way. Leave the guns to the police and military and ban guns across the board; this way when us law enforcement types run into anyone with a gun, we don't have to wonder about their intentions; we just automatically draw down on them and give them an ultimatum keeping us all safer.

Well Dodo,
It is really hard to compare apples with oranges. The endless about of variables that differ from Japan to the US is enormous. However our culture is much more like England in its ethnic diversity and a ton more cultural similarities. And in England since they have banned all pistols and long guns their crime rate has risen 40%. Also the police now are carrying guns for the first time as well. And here is the latest Harvard study on the matter which shows that your point is totally invalid.

Another thing that is good to remember is that if nothing else, history has proven our founding fathers to be correct on the second amendment. Remember, this amendment is not to grant the right to have a plinking or hunting rifle it is recognizing the enaliable right already in existence to protect oneself from tyranny of government both domestic and foreign as well as self protection. Like Ben Franklin said and I quote,...... "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote".

I own a Heckler and Kock .45, I don't have a permit, I know I can get one, I had a permit in the state of alabama, but I rather not, just think of all the folks out carrying guns, it's going to get real ugly, I will attempt to walk away from any fight and I am 6'4" 280 lbs but if I have my gun, I might just stay and someone may get hurt.

You know I remember when Florida began issuing CC permits and everyone (mostly the left) was saying the state will turn into a modern day Dodge City but that didn't happen nor did it happen to the 37 other states that followed. It won't happen in GA either Just because you can carry on public transportation.

I carried already, before the law was passed. I assumed that was what the permit was for in the first place. Who's to say i won't Brian Nicoles one day. I mean what was his record before that day... Guns don't kill people, people kill people.(NRA)..., an based on our criminal justice system and our commitment to the death penalty some people deserve to die. Look i'm black and when I reference history i find that the law more than not doesn't favor me. Therefore I must take measurements to protect myself. Death is for certain. Life is the only thing unsure. An I be d___ if someone else has the final say so, when it comes to split second disitions.
