My Fellow Fox26 Crew:
This post is directed exclusively towards you all at Fox26 regarding the interactive chatting while the news broadcast is taking place @5 & 5:30 p.m. Today, me, Kenswife, and a few others that were on the chat line had a difficult time keeping up w/everybody that was chatting during your 5 p.m. broadcast. Is there a way that anybody there can control the speed of the input of the chatters. I overheard Melinda making a comment during the commercial break that she "couldn't keep up with everybody." Please don't get me wrong, I love the idea of being able to interact with you all while your news broadcast is taking place on the chatline but just seems as though we have to "speed-read" in order to keep up. with what everybody else is sayin'.
Thank you for your consideration in advance.

My Fellow Houstonians:
Greetings. Last night, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett asked the citizens of New Orleans to flee north if they become the bullseye of Gustav in retrospect to the fact that it doesn't make sense for one coastal community to flee to another when they are all within the cone of uncertainty of Gustav. A lot of people that I have talked to regarding his statement portray us as Houstonians to be either prejudice or racist because of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the impact that it had on our community when we opened our doors to assist those who were victimized by Hurricane Katrina.
For all of us that are in the cone of uncertainty, I wish everybody the best of luck and pray for each and everyone of your safety as to where Gustav finally makes landfall. Yesterday, someone made the comment about the computer models predicting landfall of Gustav. It's great that we have such sophisticated technology nowadays to determine where a major storm may make landfall but in this case like every storm in the past that we've dealt with, only God and Gustav knows where he's gonna hit.
I would like to be the first to elaborate on this topic. Let's turn the tables around for a minute. What if Galveston/Houston become the bullseye of Gustav. Do you think that we are much more prepared this time around if Gustav hits the Texas coastline? What kind of "outer" assistance do you think we'll receive from surrounding counties/states if we get the worst of Gustav? Will we receive the same kind of assistance w/o prejudice?
Let's remember this, when we opened our door(s) to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, they were of all races, religions, sexes, and ages. Keep that in mind as you respond.
Thank you and good luck to all of you as we embrace for what could be another catastrophic storm to make history in our books.

Greetings! Been a while since I've had posted a blog on here. Everynow and then I'll jump in on the live webchat to say hello and make a few comments on what's going on in the news or weather; nevertheless, had the privilege of attending the Kenny Chesney Poets & Pirates Tour 2008 at Reliant last night. Granted, we didn't make it there on time but that was pretty much expected. I just wanted to make a few comments on what I would like to call the "Cheers & Jeers" of the tour. First of all, CHEERS to Kenny Chesney, he delivered as expected. The special effects of his performance was top notch with clips of some of his music videos to accompany the song(s) that he was singing to. He did however "mess up" on his song Big Star when he started off singing the second verse to his song and looked back to his band and made a comment about not knowing which verse he was. Most of the people there were either too drunk or just didn't care to notice. He did bounce back and finished the song successfully.
Keith Urban delivered an excellent performance; however, to get off the stage and stand there in the midst of the crowd near the stage and let people put their hands(mostly women, I think, LOL! Was in Section 137 so couldn't really see exactly what was going on that the big screen couldn't catch.) all over him. I felt more sorry for security than I did him. On the big screen, you could see people using their camera phones to get an up close and personal picture of Keith Urban. I just thought that was a little egotistical; nevertheless, he delivered a great performance.
Leanne Rhimes, the proudly admitted "Texas girl from Dallas but yet a Houston Texans fan" breaking out the Winston #73 jersey later on during her performance, was an exceptional performance. I just think she talked more than she sang if you want my personal opinion. Most of you will recall how she got her big break in the music industry when she first appeared on Star Search w/Ed McMahon at the age of 15(I believe that's how old she was when she first appeared on SS).
Gary Allen was a good performer. I just don't understand how people get all excited when he would take a Jack Daniels "shot break" during verses of some of the songs that he was singing on the two screens on each side of the stage. I guess it was all a part of his performance.
There was an incident where three girls got into a fight right there on the stairwell but hey, that's pretty much what you get when you mix music w/alcohol and jealousy. and of course there were the "Naked Cowboys Wannabe" that were displaying their Alcohol Machoism. Of course, they didn't completely strip down to the buff, Thank God!
Anyway, those were some of my highlights from the concert last night. Would love to hear from anyone else that attended the concert that would like to share their comments on how you think the artists performed.

My Fellow Houstonians:
Greetings from Ft. Worth, Tx. Today, we said goodbye to a very dear and loving woman in my family, my grandmother. She was 85. To see her at peace as she laid in her coffin was a very sad and disturbing event but at the same time, it was a day to celebrate her life and remember all the good times that we had while she was with us. I got a call last Saturday when I was back home from one of my closest cousins telling me that our grandmother was in ICU and not expected to make it through the weekend. Unfortunately because of work, I was not able to be there before she passed away. Mothers Day was her favorite day of the year and it would've been the day that she wanted to go home to be with the Lord but it was in his best interest that he let us spend that one last Mothers Day with us before he called her home. She passed away approximately at 12:20 a.m. early Monday morning. Everybody that could've stayed with her until she passed away was there so she didn't leave this world alone.
To my MyFoxHouston family, I thank you for allowing me to share with you this trouble time that my family and I are going through and ask for your prayers as we learn to live our lives on a daily basis without her. Granny, you will be missed for all the days of our lives and will look forward to seeing you soon.

My Fellow Houstonians:
I come to you at this time asking for your prayers as me and my family grieve over the loss of our beloved grandmother. This morning(Monday, 5/13/08) at approximately 12:20 a.m. in Ft. Worth, Tx, our family lost one of it's greatest members and friend. To dedicate this blog to her in her memory, I would like to share with you a poem that was written by a friend of mine.
WE LOVE YOU...
THE ANGELS GATHER NEAR YOUR BED
SO VERY CLOSE TO YOU
FOR THEY KNEW THE PAIN AND SUFFERING
THAT YOU WERE GOING THROUGH.
WE THOUGHT ABOUT SO MANY THINGS
AS WE HELD TIGHTY TO YOUR HAND
OH, HOW WE WEISH YOU WERE STRONG
AND HAPPY ONCE AGAIN.
BUT YOUR EYES WERE LOOKING HOMEWARD
TO THAT PLACE BEYOND THE SKY
WHERE JESUS HELD HIS OUT STRETCHED ARMS
IT WAS TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
WE STRUGGLE WITH OUR SELFISH THOUGHTS
FOR WE WANTED YOU TO STAY
SO WE COULD WALK AND TALK AGAIN
LIKE WE DID- IN OTHER DAYS
BUT JESUS KNEW THE ANSWER
AND HE KNEW HE LOVED YOU SO
SO WE GAVE TO LIFE'S GREATEST GIFT
THE GIFT OF LETTING GO.
NOW OUR HEARTS WILL CARRY MEMORIES
OF THE LOVE YOU GAVE TO US
UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN IN HEAVEN
WHERE THE BEST IS YET TO BE.
May your soul rise to heaven, grandmother for the Devil knows you're no longer here. We love you, we miss you and will see you again soon.
All Our Love,
GDub.
Thank you for letting me share with you once again.

Greetings. Today I had the privilege of meeting and visiting w/Lanny at the Fox26 studio. It was a very pleasant experience being able to talk to him one on one. I can't say enough how wonderful all of you at Fox26 are and just being so down to earth. It's a great feeling knowing that not only do they deliver the most up to date news, weather, and traffic but at the same time they care about their viewers whether it's one on one conversations, blogs, phone calls, etc. Lanny, thank you for making my visit to the studio a great experience!

Greetings. For those of you who are politically oriented minded, please disregard your thoughts. It has been supposedly proven that propane has been recommended over charcoal when it comes to grilling. Supposedly, charcoal's the reason for acute cancer when it comes to grilling versus propane due to the fact that propane is considered a natural gas and is considered healthy for u s when it comes to grliling.
Thank You.

The other day, I was driving down the road and had to do a double take b/c someone was experiencing a bad day and had to show their real self on the road as they were traveling to their destination. I thought to myself, "whatever"| and let them go about their way giving them glorification by letting them pass me by without causing incident on the road.
What do you think the reason(s) are/is for us being rude on the road after a hard days work, whether it's business or personal? Is it a matter of status quo or just the fact that we had a bad day?
Thank You.

Greetings. Just wanted to take the time to thank you for viewing my posts and responding to them as you see fit. I've never been one to be judgmental or bias based on your opinions. I know that many of us have opinions that may not be in agreement with but it just goes to show that we are human and have our own views opinions of whatever we blog about.
Thank You!

Greetiongs. Think this is the 5th post that I have created this evening. I was just listening to some old country this evening as I replied to some posts that I blogged about earlier and in the process, I was listening to some old classic country. Is it me or just the idea that classic country is fading away? A lot of the music that was written back then had meaning to it versus todays music hits. Do you think that modern music has lost it's true meaning or is it just a way of most new music artists saying "Hey, this is a sample of my music, take it or leave it?" and the fact that they are starving for ratings or attention?
Thank You.

My fellow Hostonians:
Greetings once again and welcome to my post. A few weeks ago, me and a good acquaintance were out on the town. We called a cab originally b/c we both had been consuming prior to our outing thinking that it was the best decision for us to make before galavanting on our outing. When we arrived at our destination, we arrived a little bit earlier than anticipated and we offered the cab driver a drink as part of our compensation for the trip in which we owed for.
I was thinking to myself, "OMG! This is the person that we're holding responsibility for our arrival to and from the destination in which we paid him/her for." The cab driver gladly accepted the beverage and informed us that he/she would be available for us when it was time for us to leave our destination and go home.
Is it really safe to ride with a cab driver who gladly accepts an alcoholic beverage for compensation when it is them that we solely rely upon to get us to and from we need to go after the time of the event expires?
This is only an opinionated blog. Thoughts or opinions are greatly appreciated but not required.
Thank You.

My fellow Houstonians,
Ok, so tonight, Im a little bit out of my element but I'm sure many of you have heard the saying, "Who's Your daddy and where's my meatlooaf?" causing people to have braggin rights, right? But let's face it, just because most of us either have DSL or cable, does that mean that we have the best in customer service when it comes to internet access? In your experience, please let us know who has the best in customer service by their internet provider and why, whether it's cost proficient or customer service oriented.
Thank You.

My Fellow Houstonians:
Greetings and Good Evening. For those of you who have kept up with my previous posts, the majority of them have dealt with humor and hope regarding my everyday life. This time, I come to my blogger family for help. I hope that this post doesn't make me appear to you as a poster child for the unemployed. I've always been told growing up that "pride comes before the fall." I sit here unashamed and with humility as I write this post in hope(s) that someone can be of assistance to me as I go public with my situation.
Week before last, I had an altercation with a manager that had been assigned to our department roughly 2 months prior to the incident that Im about to discuss. For legal reasons, the name of the company will not be revealed in this post. The incident escalated over a minor infraction that became a personal issue between me and my manager. Words were exchanged that I will not even attempt to improvise in this post b/c it is not my nature to speak such language even in public. During the heated discussion, my manager approached me in an unprofessional manner that caused provocation between the two of us. (no physical contact was made during this altercation) I was told within inches of our noses, if you will, touching each other that he had killed men in the Vietnam war with his bare hands and went on to calling me names that no manager that I had ever worked for in the past would ever say to me or anybody. I took that as a verbal threat and without further detail of the altercation went to his manager. I was very shook up at the fact that my manager had the audacity to make such remarks towards me, let alone call me names that I won't attempt to mention in this post.
I informed his manager on the day of the incident that I had vacation time accrued and wished to submit a request to take my vacation which was granted to me. His manager asked me if I wanted to discuss what had just taken place. Due to the fact that I was hysterical and shook up from the altercation, I told him I'd rather not and only requested my vacation. The next day, I was called into the main office by the general manager, along with the HR(human resources) director, my manager and his manager. The general manager informed me that I needed to go and get evaluated by a psychologist before I would be able to return to work. I informed the general manager that I thought it was unfair that I would have to use my insurance to find such a provider when it was mandatory for me to be evaluated as part of me being able to return to work. I attempted to tell my side of the story as to what had actually taken place but I was denied the right to tell my side of the story. The reason for the evaluation was to determine if I was fit for the "stress of the work load" and that I wouldn't be a threat to myself or any other employees in my department. I told the general manager that I had been with the company for 14 months, which the general manager had only been there for merely 4 months, mind you and told him that it was ludicrous to even think that such evaluation would be required to determine my future at the company. If it was determined from the evaluation that I would not "be fit" for the job description in which I was originally hired for, then I would be terminated.
Last week, while on vacation, I called a lawyer and told him my side of the story and unfortunately the lawyer informed me that he was sorry I was "treated badly" by the company and that there was nothing that he could do to help me. I'm not trying to sue the company. I feel that my direct managers' actions were unprofessional and uncalled for.
To make a long story short, I went to his manager and told him that it was probably in the best interest for both parties( me and the company) that I go ahead and resign and give up all benefits that I had worked for(health insurance, etc) and look for another job. I am looking for work and advice as we speak.
If anybody has any direct suggestions or advice and wish not to disclose them in this blog, please feel free to email me at karaokeghhou2971@yahoo.com. I promise anyone that replies to this post via email that any information such as names or phone numbers, if applicable will not be disclosed to the general public or anybody.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I know that most of you like myself are not one to read lengthy posts but hopefully, if you took the time to read this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Again, Im not looking for a handout or an application for welfare. Im a firm believer people help those who help themselves.
Thank You and God Bless.

My Fellow Houstonians:
For me to help cope with life's everyday turmoils that come my way, I find comfort in blogging. If you're walking down the street and pass by me, you would never notice the battles that I endure on a daily basis of wanting to take a drink. I can only hope that my triumphs and tribulations will give hope to those out there who deal with what Im going through on an everyday basis. I try not to make it a habit of "seeking unwanted attention" but I was told many years ago, whatever it takes to make it through another day sober, then do it. Today was a very challenging day for me, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. So with that said, I give you..............My Day in a "Poem"shell.
Today was a day I wanted a drink,
I could've cared less nor wanted to think
about the consequences I would later have to pay,
and thought to myself, "I'll deal with it another day."
I cried many tears of anger,
thinking thoughts that would only cause danger.
I stormed out the building and hopped in my car,
driving like a maniac in search of a near bar.
I thought to myself, "It's only today."
"A drink or two and I'll be ok."
Before I got out, I picked up the phone
and cried out in help, "I can't be alone."
I vented and screamed as my face turned pulp red,
I wanted to drink until I was dead.
Then all of the sudden a friend told me stop
and take time to remember everything you got.
It's only today that you're feeling this way,
tomorrow will come and be a new day.
My prayer for today is that I make it through,
without a drink and having friends just like you.
GDub.
Friends, this poem didn't come out of a book. It was events that actually took place today in my life. It was a very challenging day but it was a day that I chose to face everything without drinking. Thank you for allowing me to share with you...........My Day in a "Poem"shell.

My Fellow Houstonians:
Greetings and welcome to a day in my simple life. I put some good thought into this before I sat down to write this post. Today was just an average day for me. Wake up, prepare for the work day, get in my vehicle, make my usual stop at the convenience store for coffee, grab a newspaper, then onward bound to my usual route to work.
This afternoon, after I got off of work, came home, did my usual cleaning up around the house and for some reason I got into the MO of having what we use to call in the military a "GI Party"(veterans know what I'm referring to by the expression). After I threw my little GI Party, I lit an incense stick, an incense cone, a handful of scented candles and threw the "Shepard Moons" cd by Enya into my surround sound, stretched out on the couch and relaxed.
Im quite sure, many of you reading this are thinking, "ok, GDub, where are you going with this", right?
Friends, many of us live such a busy and hectic life that we barely take the time to just sit back, relax, and appreciate the smaller things in life. I look back on 2007 when I went through my ordeal w/the legal system, which happy to say, I'm halfway through my term of satisfying "Your Honor" and have successfully passed random unadultered testing along w/staying current on the fees assessed to the county monthly and am still gainfully employed along with being clean and sober. Many of you who responded to the post that I wrote a few months ago when I went public w/my incident have been a tremendous part of my success to be where I'm at today.
I apologize if I may have become a little side-tracked w/the theme of my post. I just wanted to briefly keep everybody that was concerned and supportive to me updated on my progress.
Anyway, as I was saying earlier, today I felt compelled to share a day in my simple life with everybody and hope that someone will stop to appreciate everything they have in life, big or small, short or tall, just as I have today.
This post is dedicated to Lanny Griffin and everybody at Fox26 for allowing me to share my walk of life with you all and the outpour of support that you all have given to me in my tenure of blogging here on MyFoxHouston.com.
Once again, thank you for allowing me to share "A day in my Simple Life."
God Bless,
GDub
