Talkin' Smack

I was listening to the radio this morning and they were talking about Kathy Griffin's acceptance speech for an Emmy. Apparently it's being censored for what she said; "a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus." I'm sorry, but how is that offensive? I cannot believe something like that is being censored. Other people get away with so much more than that. She's Jewish, therefore, she doesn't believe in Jesus, so of course she wouldn't thank him. Do we not all have a right to believe in who or what we want anymore? Is the new standard to be required to thank Jesus? Maybe I don't have the full story. Her speech was labeled; "vulgar, in-your-face brand of hate speech." Am I missing something?

hi guys !! i'm a huge kathy griffin fan, and of her show on bravo, so i happen to know that she's quite the irish catholic, and not jewish. while i didn't hear her acceptance speech, i'm just gonna guess her comments were part of her special brand of humor (as in, not to be taken seriously) that earned her that very emmy she was accepting. ;)

Yeah, you're right Christine, I guess she is Catholic. I'm not sure why I thought otherwise. I also agree that she was just trying to be funny. That's why I don't understand why such a big deal was made out of it. I guess people just need something to complain about. :)

Problem is that if she made the same comment about Moses or Mohemed they would ban her for life. She wasn't trying to be funny, she was trying to bash Christianity. But I guess it's ok to do so.

She WAS just being sarcastic. She meant it as "I did the work so it's my award". It WAS just her humor. No big deal. Anyone offended is a moron.

She was not bashing Christianity. That is ridiculous. She was just being her sarcastic witty self. She just said that Jesus had nothing to do with the award! I have no doubt that is true. How her statements can possibly be characterized as "hate-speech" is beyond any rational thought. Nothing in her comments was an attack on Christianity. I am sure that even Muslims would agree that Muhammad had nothing to her award either.

Bruno, she was being sarcastic, but she was not "joking" She meant it when she said that Jesus had nothing to do with the award. That's not an attack, it's just a statement of opinion, hers. Why don't you tell us all why and how Jesus did have something to do with the award. I am looking forward to hearing that. You might also want to check a few stats. The percentage of US Jews and Muslims combined can't even shake a twig at the number of Christians in the US. Worry not, my friend, Christianity will likely be around for several thousand more years! Kathy Griffin is not a threat to God.
