In many ways Christmas has become a season of excess and more presents means more trash - certainly not a gift to nature. Environmentalists are seeing more of an effort to go green, but much more needs to be done. In the end, the gift that will truly keep on giving is recycling and re-using.

What ideas do you have to recycle after the holidays?

Christmas wrapping paper - an excellent starter for a roaring fire in the fireplace. Now more timely than ever since I cancelled my Post-Disposal subscription after my cockatiel died.

I throw out all my left overs out of the fridge to the birds! My mom always did it and at least someone is eating it! They really love spaghetti and mac and cheese! they really love noodles of any kind..they will eat anything! just not kept so long it is furry! lol..they also love ramen noodles and favorite is popcorn! get refills from seeing the movie(towards the end of movie)and bring home and what kids..etc won't eat..throw out to the birds!! they even like burnt cookies..burnt anything! lol..think of the birdies! we have a cardinal family that will even come to the ledge of our window outside and look in and sometimes peck on it...can you say...GUILT TRIP? lol...yes i do feed them seed too! mostly when fed every day they won't get into the trash bags and wont leave little "droppings" on your car's...

All of you that do the think green thing are not doing without anything. So you think you are recycling Christmas paper, chances are you are not. It is taken to the dump. You need to check to make sure it is going to the proper place to be reused and most places, due to the ink and other things used to make it pretty for you will not be used. Paper is used as starter material because it needs to get hot to start the fire. Hopefully the left over food is placed up high as you can end up with dog packs and they are not fun to deal with. If it is veggie mater compost it and plant a garden.

instead of using a gift box and wrapping paper along with bows use gift bags.

they are easy for young ones to open and then you can easily fold them and store them to use the next year, they take up very little space.
