Many of you expressed an interest in Dandy, the dog owned by accused hiker killer Gary Michael Hilton.  As you know, the dog was being held at the DeKalb County shelter as "evidence" for lack of a better word.

Well, today the DeKalb Police say that Dandy is no longer in the county's custody.

"Last week the dog was turned over to a person approved by the GBI," according to Mekka Parish, a police spokeswoman.

Now what does that mean?  Not sure.  I have left a message with the GBI, but I probably won't hear anything until Monday.   I'll keep you posted.

I really hope that Dandy ends up a a loving home. I don't blame the GBI for wanting to keep Dandy's whereabouts a secret because some idiot out there would probably love to get ahold of him (her?) and get revenge for Hilton's crimes. It doesn't make any sense for someone to do that, but very few things in life make sense. Admittedly, Dandy's history is creepy, but it's not the dog's fault. I hope the poor thing ends up in a good, loving home -- sort of like witness protection for dogs.

Update:

A GBI spokesman says that Dandy was recently adopted to someone they feel very comfortable will give her a safe home.

I wondered what kind of temperament this dog might have living with a man who has been accused of brutal crimes. I was told that Gary Hilton actually treated the dog very well.

I don't think by trying to find the dog a home anyone blogging is excusing the person who killed Meredith. Getting the dog a home was just another part of this situation that needed to be taken care of.

thanks for the update. the poor dog needs a safe and loving home. i'm sure sure Dandy will make a wonderful pet/companion to the person that adopted her. it's amazing to see how resilient dogs are... look at how well most of the poor pits that were confiscated from conVICK are doing. i saw a report on some of them, even the ones with the most scars on their bodies.. were interacting perfectly with the foster groups.

to SANTAS ELF.. GROW UP YOU TROLL!

I'm not as serious as I look on TV. I love to laugh even if it's at my expense. I'm just not very PC. My friends would describe me as "black and white." Not a lot of gray. My co-workers call me Elaine from Seinfeld. I'm generally disheveled and have a messy car. I have really curly hair, but the station doesn't like it that way. I love my husband because he's funny. I also love red wine, rare steak, dark chocolate and strong coffee. I'm Type A, so of course, I wish I were smarter.
