In a Meredith Emerson blog many of you wanted to talk about the issue of guns in parks.  It seemed more appropriate to move that topic away from those who wanted to pay tribute to the life of  Meredith Emerson.
There were all sorts of opinions.  One writer called a gun the great equalizer while others seemed to believe even if they could take a gun to a public park, they wouldn't.  It's simply not something they are comfortable with.

I wouldnt go rambling around in the woods without a handgun of some sort even a small 25 caliber automatic like one of the small Berettas. You might run into a maniac looking for someone to prey on & possibly protect yourself??

It's all about 'SELF-Awareness'. You don't go to an area that has a good oppurtunity of posing a "THREAT" to you. You go around or don't go at all. You should always use the 'Buddy System'. If you must go, take a friend or two with you. NEVER ALONE. Before you go, let someone know where you are going and when you expect to be back and have them call you. If you're not back then they know something is wrong immediately and can save precious time in finding you or reporting your disappearance to the police. Lastly, there is NOTHING WRONG with carrying a gun. What determines it wrong or not is HOW IT IS USED.

Except for the last item *gun*. This is stuff that I was a child was taught. People have somehow have been blinded by the assumption that just because 'it's their RIGHT' to walk down that path, they think nothing 'BAD' can happen during thier journey. REALITY is a HARD LESSON LEARNED.

Meredith had a sense of false security because she studied martial arts, but the old coot caught her sliipin some kind of way or another, who knows, he may have been pretending to be hurt, then struck her about the head so quickly that her equalibrian was off, I think she should have never been roaming the woods alone, I wouldn't even advise that type of act to a man, there are too many crazies out there.

Its a great idea to take someone with you when you go to the park or ride the silver comet. But in my experience, most of the time, I cant get my friends interested in going with me because their butt will hurt...waah, etc. Thats when it sucks, because you really want to get out there, but you know that some fool might be out there with bad ideas in their head and you happen to come up on them. Me, and because I have a hard time getting my friends to go with me to the trail or mountains or even the park...I am looking into getting a concealed weapons permit so I can discreetly carry my gun with me when I am biking by myself, or I will bring my big boy Kodi with me, which helps too. I wish that Meredith had a huge protective dog with her at the time. Both she and the dog may still be alive today, but hindsight is 20/20, right?

It's amazing how long it's taken to beat back the social engineers and experimenters to a time when Americans are allowed to even think about protecting ourselves again… I've had discussions with my anti-gun friends to try to understand their position, which is usually one of a lack of understanding of basic facts concerning survival.

If someone is aggressive towards me, is it ok to raise my voice or to raise my hands to protect myself? Is it ok, to use a pen or pencil to keep a bully from hurting me? If so, it would reason that its just a matter of the material makeup of the self protection tool.

I always hear the "husband in a rage harms the wife" argument. Care to research the physical abuse (just count the choking reports) numbers versus the numbers of spouses who are safe and sound in there knowledge that they can protect their children for the precious minutes it would take for the Police to be dispatched by a 911 operator and to make it to the disturbance. When the Police are only minutes away, a Gun can provide those precious seconds of protection that mean the difference in writing a complaint report and investigating a homicide.

Chose not to own or carry a Gun, it's your call. Just don't infringe on my right and ability to protect myself, my family, or in an extreme circumstance, you or your family.

I'm not as serious as I look on TV. I love to laugh even if it's at my expense. I'm just not very PC. My friends would describe me as "black and white." Not a lot of gray. My co-workers call me Elaine from Seinfeld. I'm generally disheveled and have a messy car. I have really curly hair, but the station doesn't like it that way. I love my husband because he's funny. I also love red wine, rare steak, dark chocolate and strong coffee. I'm Type A, so of course, I wish I were smarter.
