Two years ago, when we ran our first Earl Paulk sexual misconduct lawsuit story, I had no idea how many twists and turns this case would take.

The latest was a rare ruling by Dekalb County Superior court Judge Mark Anthony Scott to award attorneys’ fees to Paulk’s lawyers.

This ruling, just weeks after Paulk is convicted of perjury for lying in the same case before Judge Scott.

I call the ruling rare, because, statistically, it is. A recent survey by the University of Georgia of judges in Georgia found 98% of the judges award attorneys fees in less than 10% of the cases they see.

Several said they had never awarded attorneys fees.

Tonight, we hear from one local lawyer, a former district attorney in Dekalb county, who says the ruling is improper and has raised a cloud of political suspicion.

The political connection he is referring to is Dekalb County CEO Vernon Jones. Jones is a friend and political supporter of Judge Scott.

What does the CEO have to do with the Earl Paulk sexual misconduct lawsuit?

We’ll explain tonight at six and ten.

And the Paulk case keeps twisting and turning.

Why is it that in this story, you had an attorney (Yes, I know he was formerly the DA) who is now representing PB commenting on whether or not the judge in the BB and MB case should have thrown it out. No matter what he is representing her for, he now has a stake in the matter. If he now wants to sue on behalf of his client, isn't it obvious that his opinion is going to be biased. IF he is planning to sue, don't you think he would want the judges order overturned. He has a vested interest in trying to influence the outcome of the appeal. If he read the court order, he would know that there was more to the lawsuit than just the fact that MB claims she was coerced.

Also, no mention was made that the part of the lawsuit regarding Bobby Brewer was also proven to be frivolous. It was proven in court that EP did not owe him any money. Why was that not brought up in the story? That was a part of the judges decision too.

Dale, there are some people who just want the truth to be told. You don't do anyone a favor with this kind of reporting. Oh, I know you will tell me how wrong I am but this is just blatantly biased reporting. Stop trying to deliberately mislead the public.

Thank you Dale for getting to the heart of the matter! Vernon Jones is a supporter of Earl Paulk and has been for years. Vernon Jones doesn't want the stain of the Paulk trial on him as he tries to run for Senate. I don't think it was possible for the Brewers to get a fair trial in Dekalb Co. because of the corruption there, and we all know EP has been in the middle of the Dekalb Co. political corruption. THANK YOU for continuing to pursue the truth about the Paulks!

Questions: Did Judge Scott ever visit CHHC and receive any public acknowledgement that could boost his election? Did Vernon Jones ever visit CHHC and receive public acknowledgment that could boost his position? Did Vernon Jones have a relationship with a staff member at CHHC? What relationship did Vernon Jones have with Judge Scott? What relationship did Vernon Jones have with the Brewer case? Did Vernon Jones refuse to testify in a deposition in the Brewer case? Why? Why did Judge Scott rule favorably for EP on the case with such unusual prejudice? Isn't there sufficient evidence for a clear conflict of interest that would normally have Judge Scott to have himself recused in the case? Would not that be normal protocol in any just court system? We know about corrupt church leaders. Are there corrupt politicians and judges too? I don’t think the problem is the investigative reporter. We now enter Holy Week. We will soon hear the Passion Narrative of the Christ. Perhaps we may be able to identify a few contemporary versions of Pilate, Caiaphas, Barabbas and the mob.

Dale,
I have watched your report on the Vernon Jones/Judge Mark Anthony Scott/ Patty Battle and Earl Paulk Connection several times. Well done! You have demonstrated excellent work as an investigative reporter. This was fair and evenhanded reporting. Your report raised the specter of political and judicial corruption. I hope that you will pursue this further as Vernon Jones makes his bid for the Senate. Such dubious persons in places of leadership and authority in our country are hardly what we need. Judge Scott so overplayed his hand in this ruling that he telegraphed his prejudice. Only Paulk supporters could possibly see Judge Scott’s ruling as rendering justice. Like many of the ‘victories’, this too will be short lived with damaging effects on even their friends. Whoever buddies the Paulks seems to come away soiled and broken. Maybe one day their will learn what so many already know.

FIRSTHANDTOO- What is your game? Are you a Paulk? Why don't you comment on all the hell that Bishop Satan has put people through? After all that they have on Earl Paulk, any defender of his must be a total idiot. Really, I'd like to meet and talk to a current Paulk supporter or those people who still attend his place on sundays; give me a moment or two and I bet I come away with some money in my pockets.

Thanks again, Dale, for shining light into the dark corners. I am sure ol' Vern and the judge would rather have kept this info to themselves, especially in light of the upcoming election. Speaking of which, isn't it interesting that Saxby announced today that he is seeking a 2nd term?

Dale,
How can we access the story and video that aired Tuesday? I cannot find in anywhere. Did it get pulled off the website to protect the Dekalb County CEO's bid for the senate?

It seems apparent that politicians must be careful about who they get in bed with in their religious affiliations…both figuratively and literally. Some religious connections can prove problematic when the light of public scrutiny shines on them too brightly. Presidential hopefuls as well as senate aspirants may find that the endorsements and support they received from religious leaders may come back to bite them at inconvenient times. In making his bid for the senate, I think Vernon Jones should have instructed Judge Scott, his friend and frat brother, to exempt himself from the Earl Paulk/Brewer case. That would have better served his friend. Now the connections have become too obvious and potentially damaging.

It's a holy weekend. Why don't everyone focus on the One who died for you and give BB, MB, EP, DEP, BET, MTV, TBS and everyone else a break and practice love, compassion, giving and repentance during this holy season.

This story has been "milked" to death. After the weekend, feel free to resurrect the story and your bitterness. Deal or no deal?

Happy Easter!!!!!

P.S. If you can't take a little humor then CHHC really has stolen your soul!!!

Make you a deal, Jessiemae. If the Paulks will stop molesting, coercing, lying, manipulating, ruining people's lives, covering up sin, vilifying those who take a stand against them, suing those who dare stand up to them, calling those names who speak the truth against them, perjuring themselves, and so on and so forth, ad nauseum, we will be happy to leave them alone too! Until that day comes....no deal. Enjoy your holiday.

Omarsm01,
What if you are right about that? You could be. Nothing generating from CHHC shocks or surprises me these days. It is clear that CHHC supported Vernon Jones and paraded him on their stage to suggest that the sheeple support politicians like him. This public attention certainly aided his bid for office. He in turn supported Judge Mark Anthony Scott's election with the largest contribution. Judge Scott knew that he his frat mate, Vernon Jones, was connected to Earl Paulk. He owed his friends a favor and so ruled in such a way that he saved Jones from having to explain in court why he would not answer questions about his relationship to a CHHC staff person in an earlier deposition. Hmmm. Didn't the good judge realize that this was a clear conflict of interest that should have barred him from sitting on this case in the first place? The ruling shows how EP’s tentacles pulled in even the political and judicial "leadership" of that benighted county of Dekalb.

I saw Vernon Jones many times while I was a member at chhc
he was "a part of the family, earl called him one of his sons"
it went way behond a casual thing
I want to know why Vernon Jones thinks he should be treated differently just because for now he is CEO of Delkalb county!
This is an outrage!! He wants to be in the US Senate??!! When pigs fly!
As a resident of Dekalb county, I want to know where I can go and complain about this.
Want to bet he is over at daddy's earl's drumming up votes as we speak??
How come the IRS is not all over them over there??

I see so much bitterness and hate going on in the commentary.Though Earl Paulk did have sexual relations and he had sexual issues going on- even the sister-in-law. Let us also remember that these are not mentally retarded women, they are mentally challenged. There had been many who pursued and flirted all over Earl Paulk. These women were in no way taken advantage of, they were in no way pursued to have sex with Earl Paulk. It makes a great story for these people to color things in this fashion, especially in light of Pastor Don's affair compromising the relationship.
Earl Paulk did not compromise in his teachings, I know, I was there- leary of mega churches and things which go on in there.
As a matter of fact, many times I and another member would pray together over some issue and the Sunday, the Bishop would say he was going to speak on one subject, but the Lord told him to talk on the very subject we prayed about.
THere have been many many thousands which have been helped over the tenure Earl Paulk had preached. This same truth is true of other preachers, and history bears this out with the infidelity of Martin Luthor King Junior. If we were to judge everyone based on fidelity and other actions. We should, but people are selective in memory and execution.
It is true that this should not have happened, fidelity is important regardless of person and position in life. There have been apologies and inferences of condolences made, but in the end, the man was not Satan, was no worse than movie stars and most of the audience. We also leave people to burn. Regardless o

my erratta: "they are not mentally challenged, they are NOT mantally challenged." Sorry, forgot to check; intneded to add NOT. They were fully cognizant, and Bronners wife was a flirttish up close to you kind of gal if she knew you. When I first went there I thought she had the same name as a sister for how close she was on the arm of many people. She couldn't come up with songs and be a creative singer if she was dumb as a post, nor as gullable she made out to be. The other women are quite clever and cognizant too, so this whole 'victim' persona they played is as big a sham as thethought from Earl Paulk that he could get away with doing this and not getting caught. I know these things because I was a member for a few years, I had left because I had moved away and my security jobs had me work during the Sunday's and Wednesday nights.
There were a few discrephencies, but that could be on misreading the chapter or location when recalling from memory. I have seen many political leaders, especially from the Democrat Party who got up and made speeches from pulpits. In a day of people throwing the "Separation of Church and State" in our faces, especially from the Democrat Party, should either follow that mantra themselves and not manipulate the pulpits, especially in light of the lack of portrayal from the other side. The church has been guilty of that. But I have seen the same sin especially from minority churches and then rich donations going into it-in effect, buying the votes of the congregation. This is also wrong. We in the church have the right to standup against wha

OK,since we are looking at Reality TV, then let's be real. I've been an investigative reporter in Atlanta since 1981. I rarely wear a jacket. Too hot. I love chasing crooked politicians. I hate surveillance stories. Too hot in the van. (See picture) My desk is a mess. I don't smoke. I do drink. I have a politically incorrect sense of humor and a little problem with authority. (I'm working on that) And, I never get my expense reports in on time.
