We recently aired a story on the medical practice of Dr. Nathaniel Johnson, an OB/GYN and plastic surgeon in Atlanta.

Our story focused on the treatment of patients by a man in his office named Jeff Romeus.

Patients we talked to felt Romeus was a medical doctor. He isn’t.

He’s not in a licensed residency training program either. He graduated from a Medical College in South America and sometime after graduation began working with Dr. Johnson.

The Medical Board director told us the law says he can’t treat patients - either alone or with supervision.

Romeus and Dr. Johnson both say he was training with Dr. Johnson and was always supervised.

The patients tell a different story.

The Georgia State Medical Board is investigating.

I’ve been flooded with calls from more patients, all telling me they thought Romeus was a doctor when he treated them. Many were pregnant and undergoing prenatal care.

If you have any information about this situation, feel free to call or email me.

You can see the story under the I-team section.

We hope to have more on this story and will let you know what the Medical Board decides.

Obviously, Medical Credentials are not being looked at or checked by the state enough. But not to put the SOLE repsonsibility on the state. The PATIENTS THEMSELVES must demand credentials before accepting medical care from those who claim "I'm a Doctor, now take off your shirt and let me see your breasts!".

Someone is ALWAYS trying to circumvent the system!

What do you do when you are court ordered for a psychological evaluation (by a sitting Judge), and the evaluators are not licensed by the state. This is common practice in Cherokee County. When sitting judges use unlicensed pyschologists on their own children, how is the average joe supposed to fight back?

what is your fax number, i would be more than happy to provide with documented proof! I have the court order that this "judge" had the mother of his children served to see this phd, i have transcripts of those evaluations with both the licensed and unlicensed drs (for the judges children and others), the licensing board privately reprimanded the dr that was licensed, and had the unlicensed one sign a cease and desist order (she was practicing without a license). These two made a lot of money off the citizens of Cherokee county, and if practicing without a license is illegal, which it is, they did it illegally with the signature of a judge

I agree it sounds crazy, but it is all public record.

Hi, where can I see the story about Dr. Johnson? I'm actually a patient of his, but I haven't been to his office since November of 2007. I'd really like to know what was going on; I missed the original broadcast the other night.

Thanks!

Just as I feared. Atlantamom is suffering from a Humor defeciency. It was a Joke Atlantamom.
However, all joking aside.. I really don't see how they are getting away with it, if what you say is correct. If I were you, I would talk to dale. I'm sure he can help you better than anyone here.

I have been Dr. Johnson's patient for six years. He is a good doctor. I feel that he is sorry for his mistakes. I stand behind him 100 percent. Jeff Romeus has seen me in the office numerous of times. I don't have any complaints because he didn't mistreat me at all. I have a question. There are several women that said they are emotionally and physically scarred from this. What if you didn't know that he wasn't a doctor? Will you still have physical scars. There are a lot of people that are practicing and they are not doctors or dentists. I feel that the State Board has a job to do. I also feel that it is our job to investigate to find out who we are letting examine us. Everybody makes mistakes and I don't feel this should make Dr. Johnson lose his license. I am still a patient and will always be as long as he is practicing medicine.

I AM ALSO A PATIENT THAT WAS SEEN BY DR. ROMEUS, EVERY TIME I WAS IN THE OFFICE, FROM 2005 TILL 2007. DR OR DO I EVEN SAY DR(BECAUSE HE IS NOT) JEFF DID ALL MY EXAMS, PRESCRIBED MEDICATION AND DIET PILLS. I TRUSTED HIM.IN MY FAMILY THERE IS A HISTORY OF BREAST CANCER IN WHICH PEOPLE HAVE DIED. I TOO HAVE A LUMP THAT I TRUSTED WAS BEING FOLLOWED PROPERLY. BUT HE IS NOT A DR.NOW HOW SHOULD I FEEL ABOUT DR. JOHNSON WHO LET THIS MAN PRACTICE AND EVEN RUN HIS OFFICE.

I understand where you are coming from. I am sorry about what you are going through. I still don't feel that Dr. Johnson should lose his license. He is human like everyone else and he makes mistakes like everyone else. The only way this came out is because a former employee of Dr. Johnson wanted revenge for whatever she endured while she was working for him. If she wasn't terminated, no one would have known about Jeff Romeus. If it was so important to her, why didn't she say something before she was dismissed. A good doctor is hard to come by and I still trust Dr. Johnson with my health. I am staying with him.

I AGREE!! I'M GLAD THAT THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE THAT FELL THE SAME WAY I FEEL ABOUT DR. JOHNSON. I LOVE HIM AND I'M VERY PROUD OF HIS PRACTICE. I'M 25 AND DR. JOHNSON HAS BEEN MY DR. SINCE I WAS 17. I WILL CONTINUE TO VISIT HIS OFFICE AND REFER OTHERS. I'M HAVE A 7 YEAR OLD AND A 2 YEAR OLD. DR.JOHNSON DELIVERED THEM BOTH. HE MAKES MY HUSBAND AND I FEEL AT EASE WHEN SHARING SOME VERY PERSONAL MATTERS WITH HIM. I BELEIVE THAT IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH TO DESTROY A SUCESSFUL BLACK MAN AND I'M AGAINST THIS MATTER 100%. I'M PRAYING FOR THE DOCTOR AND HIS FAMILY.

I am glad I have someone in my corner. Please continue to pray for Dr. Johnson and his family. He lost his brother to a car accident about 2 months ago. I hope you and others continue to support him. He is an excellent doctor. I wish him the very best in all of his endeavors.

what does him being black have anything to do with the fact that he is NOT a board certified plastic surgeon? He consciously allowed mr romeus, to perform surgical procedures on his patients while not even in the facility! bottom line is its wrong, i know because I am a nurse and was employed by this center. no one is disputing his intentions were not well, but ignorance is not tolerable in the medical industry. if anyone is considering cosmetic procedures- be sure to see board certified plastic surgeons. trust me, it pays in the end.

OK,since we are looking at Reality TV, then let's be real. I've been an investigative reporter in Atlanta since 1981. I rarely wear a jacket. Too hot. I love chasing crooked politicians. I hate surveillance stories. Too hot in the van. (See picture) My desk is a mess. I don't smoke. I do drink. I have a politically incorrect sense of humor and a little problem with authority. (I'm working on that) And, I never get my expense reports in on time.
