Some have suggested to me it was God’s will. Others, say, no, nothing but random chance.

It is a question I wouldn’t even begin to try to answer.

But, this is the event that lead to my latest Earl Paulk story.

My photographer and I were strolling down a sidewalk, blindly looking for a restaurant for lunch, in Covington, Georgia, while working on a Medicare story.

A family was walking our way. I passed the young man and thought, for a second, he looked familiar. Then, I passed the woman, perhaps his mother, and thought, now wait; I know I’ve seen her somewhere.

They walked by. I kept going. Then I heard footsteps, the woman had turned around and met me face to face. I said hell-o, and her answer stopped me in my tracks: “I’m Earl Paulk’s daughter.”

On a Tuesday afternoon, in a city far from home, lost, hungry, and looking for sustenance I run into Beth Bonner and her family.

We stood on the sidewalk and talked for thirty minutes or more. I told them if they ever want to talk on the record, I’d be glad to give them the platform.

And they did. Boy, did they talk. Riveting, powerful family stories from Beth, her daughter Penny, and Bishop David Huskins who joined us for the interview.

They said they had remained silent long enough. They had a message for the Cathedral and the community of believers who once worshipped there or worship there today.

This is clearly a family in pain. But, a family with a powerful voice they want heard.

Our story runs Tuesday and Wednesday night at 6:00 and again at 10:00.

If you want to post a blog in response, please post it on the Paulk and DNA site, rather than here.

"What goes around, comes around."

"You shall reap what you sow."

One only has to watch and see how many more of these "chance encounters" will occur with more of the victims -- and/or the offspring -- of the man some still call Bishop.

Why do I NOT have any sympathy for them?
Is it because the Paulk family has prospered through deceit and blasphemy? Or is it the blatant arrogance of E. Paulk to tell others one thing and he himself sits back laughing all the way to the bank while HE does everything he tells his congregation NOT TO DO?
Or is it because all of these years, he enjoys TAX-EXEMPT status while the HONEST and FAITHFUL he so preaches to has to endure his TAX BURDEN? Yeah, I think the PAULK dynasty is now OFFICIALLY ...OVER! See ya in the soup line EARNEST!

It is so sad to look back at a church that I went to years ago and to see what it has become. I was part of the original youth group and spent many years there. I have alot of happy memories there that I will always cherish. My heart goes out to Beth and her family and all the other families that this has affected. I went to school with Beth and even on family vacations with their family. We were all a pretty close group of kids and it just breaks my heart that this is going on.

retreat,
I'm sure thier heart is broken too. But of course when they feel sad they just order another plate of caviar and count thier money. Yes, they are really taking it hard. I'll bet if you would like some of their relief that you could ask them to give you some of that money to help you get over your pain. Haven't they called you yet to check up on you because of their equal concern you have for them that they have for you?...NO?...Hmmmmmm... wonder why?

Here's a thought retreat,... start believing in yourself, instead of some damn charlatan that portrays himself "the messenger of GOD". What? ..you're not important enough for GOD to talk too?... Maybe you're just not listening hard enough.

Here's a thought Cromagnon - you are totally way off your mark here. Where do you get off saying I don't believe in myself? You don't even know me. I've been away from that church since 1983. Maybe YOU are not listening.

Because retreat only a FOOL would have sympathy for a con-man. You put ill-place your sympathy to a charlatan instead of for example someone who can't support himself because of a disabling disease or injury ...or how about the kid on the street who has no home because MOM and DAD have either fallen on hard times or are just pieces of crap for human beings that reproduced one night. I have no sympathy for con-men nor those who have sympathy for them. I don't NEED to KNOW you when you blatantly express your ill-placed sympathy out here for everyone to read. Take responsibility for what you say. And what you said is:
:"My heart goes out to Beth and her family"
So what? are you changing your mind? Or did you not type that?...Grow up and start taking responsibility for your actions.

anyone with feelings of compassion of course
has feelings for Beth and Penni
it is horific what has and is still happening
they are victims
it was very brave for them to speak out like they did and they knew they would be attacked by their own family
I was a member at chhc for almost 7 years
all of this is heart wrenching
we all want justice and for earl paulk
and his minions as well to be held accountable

earl paulk is the vilest of the vile
what he has done he will pay for here on this earth and dearly when he dies
no one knows if he is past repentence only God knows that
he will stoop at nothing to kept for facing a
jury but it gets closer every day and when the lawyers are unleashed with mounds against
him the truth will be told
I plan to be there to it see for myself
I want him to see my face in the court room sitting behind Mona!!
I hope he is shaking in his shoes!!

If you paid attention to Beth's story she said she and her sisters did confront her father in 92 and he got down on his knees and apologized and promised to get help. For over three years they had nothing to do with him. Her mother then convinced them he had "gotten help" and they tried to reestablish ties for her sake and then they found out the new stuff and left again. Inside sources very close to the situation say, Thanksgiving was definately a reach out to Norma that they do not excuse but they do know the level of her abuse and control. They were hoping she would stand up for them, and even told her what they were doing about the interview. He was there but was isolated from the family. I am sure now that both have once again attacked Beth and Penni the break will be permanent. Remember, that when Becky died earl/norma were all but excluded from involvment in the funeral and had their own "funeral" at the cathedral without Sam and the children. These girls have stood up over and over again and no one believed them.

retreat,lookingout;
Looking back to the earliest days of chhc upto&thru the "80's we all admired the paulk family and thought ; wish my family could be like that -or- wish I could could be a part of that family. Many probably viewed their own families as disfunctional or lacking compared to that clan ! Little did we know then how,in general, are own families would turnout to be bastions of virtue compared to the paulks & their inlaws(outlaws). What a wonderful gift Beth & Penie have given us to see are own families from a new perspective and the cathedral family as they really are. I see now the grass is pretty green on my own side of the fence...what a beautiful day !

To Beth & Penie;
Thank you for your gift of TRUTH to us all...
I know it came at great cost to you both...
I pray the Good Lord may grant you both,
the dearest desires of your hearts for Christmas.

Wow! Very interesting comments!....So much compassion and forgiving!....Y'all must be the most forgiving people on earth....I'm so proud of you...and I'll bet your MOMMIES and DADDIES are too!...Oh what illusion of granduer you must be in when you walk down the street! I'm sure in your heads people are just begging to look up to you.

The Paulk Ministries started as a sham and ended as a sham and the Paulk family prospered from it by accepting good-faith contributions from honest people (but ..let's face it..with a flawed sense of judging character). Also, not only did the Paulk industry STEAL from it's own congregation but everyone else as well by recieving TAX-EXEMPT status under the guise of self-declared "CHURCH".

Here's what I see. I'll pretend to be E. Paulk's grandaughter: " After my grandpa got rich making millions of dollars, he got exposed as a hipocryte. He would always buy me things ...a new car...maybe a house...a sinecure job...But I'm sorry my Grand Daddy fooled all of you!...Well I can't talk anymore..I'm flying to Italy to visit the POPE and of course my favorite....DO SOME SHOPPING!"

Yeah, I can see where they REALLY NEED YOUR sympathy!

Yo cro'
I checked your bio. So the straight of it is;
Ya like animals because "they always tell the truth". Ya also like the "cute sound baby seals make" when you club them over the head !
This is an obvious contradiction in your personal story. Contradictions are commonly associated with all liars. Ergo (philsophical term) that means-therefore- you must then be a liar. Which, I guess is why you like to club truth tellers. Yet you see yourself as a genius. With few words then , you show yourself to be selfdeceived. A common disease that afflicts the spiritually blind. I do agree with you though that the truth doe's hurt sometimes. Obviously, You don't have to be to far up the evolutionary ladder to figure out your a mental light-weight,which is to bad for innocent baby seals in the know.

goneforgood,

It's called 'satire' facts mixed with twisting contradictions. YOU are the one that is confused about a great deal of things. GOD for one. Why GOD? Because if you're STUPID enough to follow some deviate charlatan as GOD's word then you are the FOOL...not me. I have a direct line to GOD, and I can reach him anytime. YOU and people like you, need your beliefs affirmed by others that use you.
Now let's talk "mental ability". Obviously, I must be smarter than you since you know nothing about recognizing "satire" or "sacrcasm". Please be true to your name and be......"GONE FOR GOOD".

(Quite frankly, If I were you I would change my handle to "VICTIM" since all of you E.Paulk worshipers are truly that.)

I agree Omars01, however explaining "REALITY" to the likes of "GoneforGood" is like talking Quantum Mechanics to a 3rd grader. What losers!

wrong again, what you deal in is called sarcasm (a Greek word) meaning; to tear flesh off the bone-like a dog. Yes, you are twisted though.
I confronted earl paulk to his face ,long ago and nailed him for what he is-just like I got your number. At least he had the good sense to shut up. Which is more than I can say for you, now all doubt is removed that you are a fool, cromoron .

OK,since we are looking at Reality TV, then let's be real. I've been an investigative reporter in Atlanta since 1981. I rarely wear a jacket. Too hot. I love chasing crooked politicians. I hate surveillance stories. Too hot in the van. (See picture) My desk is a mess. I don't smoke. I do drink. I have a politically incorrect sense of humor and a little problem with authority. (I'm working on that) And, I never get my expense reports in on time.
