Chip's Blog

OK, NOW I'm p*ssed!!!  They've finally done it.  I have to clean half drank coffee off my dashboard and my windshield.  Here I am, sitting at the mailbox as I am every morning at 7:00 AM, retrieving the mail from the day before.  Nothing of consequence...usual junk mail.  I admit it, my only friends are direct marketers...I get love letters from banks.  If credit card offers were lovers, I'd be Bill Clinton.  "Aaahhh did not have sex with that financial institution!"

Now, I've been acutely aware for a week or so that there is a "disconnect" between what I hear on the news, and what I experience in real life.  Everyone on TV is telling me there is a credit crunch.  Because of the subprime mortgage issue, credit money has dried up.  Yet I can't go to my mailbox without an offer for a credit card or a loan.  Now, I'm here to tell you that, although Okie Dokie and I are comfortable, we are anything but the "Gates Family".  (In fact, our house would be more likely called the "Bates Motel" than the "Gates Motel", but that is a story for a Halloween blog!!).  SO...what do I believe?  TV or my mailbox?

So, this morning I have the usual...Chase wants to give me a credit card...I can transfer my balances with no interest for 6 months...I'll pass.  we don't have balances.  At my age, I can barely keep my balance so I don't need a bank  to take it!!!

Then there is CountryWide (remember them...the FIRST to get in trouble?) who wants to re-mortgage my home.  No thanks...I'll stick with doing "it" with my wife.  I'm good...

Then....THEN....I open this envelope from "Third Financial".  It's an offer for a freakin' sub-prime second mortgage.  Holy WeeWee, Batman...That ain't "bank sex"....these guys are out to rape a whole new group of citizens!!!!  Thanks but no thanks...

So...when I get home...out comes the Armor-All...I have coffee to clean up....

Yes Chip what the hell is going on...my wife got a increase in her Credit Limit an even sent some kind of new checks...there really strange looking....we are getting bombarded with Sub Prime loans too..Luckily we made the right call 2 years ago after I was reading an watching an changed our Variable to a Fixed thank god....I was a little bit shaky on who it was AMERIQUEST...who as we were doing the deal they were getting in trouble with the A.G. here...we were going to bail out on the deal...but no kidding they sent closer a lawyer all the way down from Providence up to Central Mass...then I really got suspicious...he was Ga-beep....2 days in a row they drove up from Providence even though the loan headquarters was out of Marlborough....but we went forward and later i figured it out they just wanted that commission an add-on fees....they were about turning over volume's of loans....now we have been bundled and mortgage sold off to their sister/brother CITI group....they are selling these mortgages back and forth to each other to make money its a revolving game...

I'm still sputtering....this is HORRID. AND...is the economy really in trouble? My wife just paid $2.97 for a galln of gasoline at a FULL SERVICE station in Framingham last evening...

I have plenty of money in our checking account...we've begun our Christmas shopping already. Planning a season of snowmobiling.

AND we're not rich. We are far below Barry Obama's $250 large cut off for middle class.

Chip, did you mean Snow Machine? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! What irks me hes going to give a tax break for 95% of the middle class? he means hes going to give 45% of them who don't pay taxes like my welfare crack head sisters kid...a check for 1,000 dollars meaning we are going to have to pay taxes for that 45% who don't pay taxes for their freebies...so hows hes really giving anyone a tax break? he has to get the tax money from us anyways...to give to the 45% who don't pay taxes...Its not make believe money...its tax money! so Obomber is giving me a tax break? thats a lie....hes gives it to you In one hand an takes with the other...its no tax break!

Negotiating the purchase of a nice late model used "snow machine" as we speak...2005 Polaris Classic Touring...a "two-up" to give more suspension travel for my wife, who has a bad back from an old car accident..and allowing the 14 year old women's athlete a full sized and full powered machine...my wife's 2005 Polaris Classic "one-up"!!!

Dirty job but someone has to do it...

It doesn't surprise me that these companies are in the trouble they are in. Just think of the money alone they would save on all the mass mails they send out.
I am shocked when I recieve them , since years ago when we were going through our divorce, our only recource was to file for bankruptcy. To this day am am inundated with offers from everyhting under the sun. I can not even go into Kohl's , Target, etc...without being told I can save 15% by using my charge card. How about you NOT offer me the 15% and just take that off my price and save us all from the credit card crunch. I have learned my lesson and will not get sucked in again. If I do not have it in my account it in nor a neccessity.

Chip, Like you I can't go to the mail box without a daily invitation to some kind of credit card. I have been pre-approved. Those checks for $5,000 are very tempting to cash. I watch TV and find out we are in a very bad situation. Sometimes when I watch I think they are talking about some third world country. I don't have a car so I don't worry about gas prices. My rent includes heat and hot water so I know I won't freeze this winter. I guess it may be selfish on my part, but I really don't give a rats tush. My income is fixed at the moment and as long as I can survive month to month it's fine by me.

Selfish maybe, David...sensible definitely. Self Reliant, absolutely.

Chip, you're definitely not alone. And what I love is how stupid some of these institutions are...They keep sending ME sub-prime mortgage offers. ME! (For those of you who don't know, I live with my grandmother, who owns the house we live in) For a while, I was tempted to see if I could mortgage my cat for kicks, but now I just have more fuel for the fire pit!

Chip,

This was your funniest blog yet. You're a da&mn weirdo...you know that, don't you? It's not an insult in the least bit...so just grin about it.
I loved the imagery of the spilled coffee and the mimicry of Clinton...great stuff.
This particular entry notwithstanding, if you lost the misspellings, typos, and occasional tangential lack of flow in your writing, you've got some really good potential.
Uh-oh...I hope I didn't just inflate the size of Chip's cranium too much!

Chip,

I've been pretty sick the last 2 weeks (just found out today that I have a sinus infection and that's why it won't go away). Yesterday, I finally got around to the mail that had collected for about 3 days. We had a cable bill, our cell phone bill and.........7. Yes 7!!!!!!!! credit card offers!!!! 7!!!!! 2 of them from none other than...drum roll....WAMU! Ummm..yeah..they just got taken over by JPMorgan, but somehow, manage to still send credit card offers. I'm going back under the covers now.

June,

Hope you feel better. I haven't had one from WAMU..THAT's a classic. Third Federal (I made a mistake above that got past Graham_Cracker) that is properly pronounced "Turd Federal" was the 1.01 below prime...

Xanutn,

I double dog dare ya to mortgage the cat. It'd make a front page story...or...maybe you can get the cat on the mailing list and let HER get the mortgage. I heard cats can't go to debtors prison for non-payment.

FisherCat,

Don't run Mass. Register in NH, run out of Pittsburg, NH, although I think I'm going to try a run from Winchester, NH all the way to Pittsburg. Guy I work with has an easement in his side yard for a trail that intersect the #5 Corridor and a big driveway.

Graham_Cracker,

Thanks. The humor is sarcasm...this is a real issue for me. It infuriates me that I'm being told I have to spend my money (government money is mine) because there is no available credit, when I'm getting offers of like 100 large a week...and I'm a littole guy.

This was educational not meant for style.

Chip, I may have found an easier way. My brother (who's been dead for almost 4 years now, remember) AND my grandfather (who's been dead for 6 years) are both still getting offers. I may just let THEM get the mortgage and credit cards. I don't think they want coffins in debtor's prison either.
