Hello,

I was not sure where to put this so I apologize if it is in the wrong section. I used to crochet a while ago and wanted to get back into it. The thing I make best is baby blankets (I do ok on layettes, booties and the little hats - I made one for a relative's baby to be christened in a few years ago). I read a couple of years ago about donating hand made items such as baby blankets to hospitals. Does anyone know if that is still possible?

Thanks.

You should check with Children's Hospital. When my cousin's little girl was there in December, she was very touched by the fact that a hand made blanket was given to her for her daughter. She asked and they told her that volunteers make the blankets and they in turn give them to the kids. It wouldn't hurt to call and find out. I still have the hand made quilt that was given to my son when he was in Children's Hosp. 8 yrs ago.

Oh heck yes! There's a group of ladies from a church in Brookfield who make quilts that we take down to Kentucky every year. The Christian Appalachian Project gives them to their elderly participants. All that the ladies ask is for a letter and a picture to be sent back to them by the recipient. If you'd want to make anything, it would be my honor to take it down there on my next trip in October. I assure you that it would be put to use by a very grateful recipient.

When my SIL had her girls, they each got a handmade hat. There was a group of ladies who made them in pink, purple, blue, yellow, and green I think. But there is another idea.

You might also want to check with hospitals that have NICUs. When my best friend had her daughter 1.5 years ago, (a preemie), she was sent home with all these adorable handmade blankets, hats and booties... BTW, that hospital was St. Marys near the lake.

When my twins were born, they each got homemade knit hats. I still have them from 12 years ago.

I have been told that I am very opinionated. Not necessarily true but I am not afraid to speak my mind. I am very much anti "sheeple" and believe that people need to think and question why. I do not believe in blind faith or blindly following anything without question (including but not limited to religion and politics).
