In light of the new unemployment high, I got to thinking about job referral programs.

My company, like most, has a referral program.  Refer someone for a job, if they get and keep the job for X amount of time you get a bonus.

Have you ever told someone your company was hiring, but didn't refer them because you were pretty sure they a) wouldn't get hired, b) would get fired or quit during the qualifying period or c) just flat out embarrass you?

Please share.  I got a cousin that needs a job, but I DO NOT want my name associated with her given her previous work history.

My 6 year old son has been having a lot of trouble behaving in school for the last month or so.  Everytime I would get a bad report I would tell him, "Santa's gonna bring you a box of rocks for Christmas if you don't shape up."  Well he didn't shape up.  So I got some rocks (black river rocks like you would use in a fountain) and put them in a very ornately wrapped box.  You should have seen the look on his face when he opened that!  For a minute even I felt sorry for him.  We let him open his other real gift after that.

After we finished opening gifts I went to make breakfast.  As I'm puttering around the kitchen I hear my 6 year old and 2 year old arguing.  I poked my head around the corner, but didn't interfere.  My 6 year old was lining the rocks up on the carpet and moving them around, but wouldn't let his little brother touch them.  My 2 year old ran into the kitchen crying and said, "Mommy!  I want some rocks!"
