I have been hearing a reporter giving a tease about a story that is planned to air on Fox13.

His question, loud and clear, is:
How is it that Sex Offenders on Probation are allowed to live in tents at a Campground for the Homeless?  How can that be their Address when they are supposed to be under Supervision by State Corrections Authorities, and the Sheriff's Department?

I am already of the opinion that a person with a Fifty Intelligence Quotient could spell it out where anyone could understand.  But, I will proceed, nonetheless;

  1. Nobody: not the Lawmakers, not the Psychologists, and certainly not the Public, is willing to see that there is a difference between the "average" Sexual Offender and the "Predatory" Sexual Offender.
  2. Nobody: not the Lawmakers, not the Psychologists, and certainly not the Public, is willing to allow these people to reintegrate into Society.
  3. Nobody: not the Lawmakers, not the Psychologists, and certainly not the Public, is willing to allow these people to work and be productive Citizens.
  4. Nobody: not the Lawmakers, not the Psychologists, and certainly not the Public, is willing to allow these people to live next door to them.

Actually, one does not even have to be a Sexual Offender to see this dynamic at work against them.  These sanctions are generally applied to most anyone who has ever been convicted of a Felony Offense.  People with a history of serious crime are no longer considered to be human beings, even if they have been going straight for years after they came out of Prison.

If you are not one who feels that way, and you don't happen to believe it is true, just call around to a half-dozen Employment Agencies and ask if they will place someone with a Felony Record.  I recently took such a poll for a friend who is on staff with an Employability Workshop, and I was stunned with the answers I received from the Agencies I contacted.

So, I ask you; if a Human Being is considered not a human being, and cannot find employment, and cannot pay for a place to live IF a place can be found, what are they going to do?  What can they do besides bum around and maybe panhandle for enough to but some food and beer, and live in a tent somewhere?

WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!  Don't you think they would be less likely to repeat their offenses if the were allowed to regain some of their Human Dignity, make an honest living, and go on toward a brighter future?  Evidently, that is what Congress believes in passing the Second Chance Act that was recently signed into Law by the President.

And the ones who repeated, in spite of the second chance given, would naturally labeled as such, and be given harsher punishment.

Otherwise, what has happened to our concept of Human Rights and Human Dignity.  How can we possibly cry out about other Nations violating the Human Rights of their Citizens when 0.9% of American Citizens are CURRENTLY incarcerated?  That's approximately 27 MILLION in a Nation of 300 Million . . . IN JAIL RIGHT NOW!

Does that make you proud to be an American??

Who was it that said, "the measure of any great society is in how it treats its enemies" or something of that ilk. As true today as in any time in history.

Ain't it something, how the Government treats our Enemies with more Civility and Compassion than our own Citizens?

I'm sure there are examples that show that to be true Arky. But honestly, if we the people would lead this Country with our thoughts and actions, the Government could not treat its citizens worse than Illegals. We would not let them. Of course this is a pipe-dream, to think that the American people could come to a consensus on ANYTHING is almost laughable. No one has the good of the Country at heart anymore.

And, those who do care about the greater good are shouted down as intollerant bigots.
The DESIRES of the FEW outweigh the NEEDS of the MANY.

I'm sorry but I was a victim of a sexual predator. He was never charged but continued to prey on young women. He should be free and allowed to continue as most do to rape and degrade women. I have an issue with that.

I could not get a job when I was let go from a church because the pastor did not believe in anything written except his book on marriage. I am under weight due to the medical profession destroying my esophogus. I bet if you called around you would not find anyone that would hire a extremely skiny person. I have never done anything against a person.

Caer, my heart goes out to you.  I can relate, since I was raped by a woman when I was five, and molested by BLEEP, later in my childhood.

But, this thread is not so much about the Sexual Offenders as it is about all who have dealt with felony convictions.  It was the Headline and Tease that focused my attention on the subject.

NOTE: "Actually, one does not even have to be a Sexual Offender to see this dynamic at work against them."

There is, however, a witch hunt / lynch mob mentality in current society, owing to psychobabblers asserting that "once a __________ , always a __________ ."  You can fill in the blanks with alcoholic, thief, gambler, doper, sex offender, homo . . . anything you like.  And, it is horseapples to the core.  A flat out lie.

People can and do change.  If they don't change, they have blown it and should be slammed hard.  If they do change, they should be allowed to live in peace.  The problem is, so few believe they have a choice.

There is also the dynamic that most of Society can comprehend no difference between the one-time isolated case, who has good odds for changing, and the Fixated Predator, who has no desire to change.

Sorry Arky51, I have also been raped in Denver, and have seen the effects on a child that has been raped, most times by a person they thought they could trust. It is my opinion as a Denver native, that ALL offenders that are convicted of rape, child rape or any other kind of sexual deviant behaviour should, 1. Be castrated 2. if they wont accept castration, then they die. Society does not need these people around, when will everyone wake up to this fact? Why do we continue to treat offenders like they are some kind of child themselves and feed, clothe, house and generally do everything in our power to make sure they are "OK"? I say F*#* that! Let ME have a go at 'em, I'll do the old way of justice...let the Mothers have them first, if they survive, they get a free ticket to.... IRAQ!

Oh! I almost forgot! I AM A FELON! I work at one of the most oldest, most trusted companies in Denver and I got here by hard work! and determination! It all depends on how YOU choose to live. It is NOT the governments job to "make" you a good citizen, it is up to YOU!!!! Stop being a PU#@*! GO get an education! GO get a job! STOP trying to whine to the rest of us citizens who go out and bust our buts every day to fund programs for derelicts!!!

dispatch65, it seems as though you are addressing me, personally; and if you are, you're off base and full of it.

My advocacy is for ALL, Ex-Convicts, and the Sex Offender Headline was just a hook. And what a hook it has turned out to be, bringing out the visceral hatred which lies at the heart of so many people's psyche. A hatred they have, not only for the sex offender, but for anyone who has strayed from the path defined by their own righteousness.

Don't say you didn't experience that when you were first convicted (if you really are a felon, which I kinda doubt).

And, I will say further, that if you are an Ex-Convict employed by a "trusted" company, you surely got the job BEFORE the Politicians and Media discovered how popular they could become by whipping that hatred to the surface.

I'll never say that ANY crime is alright, or that people should not be held to account. I think people should spend a Minimum Mandatory of seventy-two hours in jail for exceeding the Speed Limit.

You say, "Society does not need these people around, when will everyone wake up to this fact?" It ain't hard to get a gun in Colorado. You go, girl. Kill them all and let God sort them out.

By the way, (you obviously ignored it) I was raped by a WOMAN when I was five years old. I don't consider myself to have been "lucky," but I wouldn't want her dead, even if I knew who she was. I wouldn't even want the gay molesters dead, who got me later in my childhood.
